The still small voice

For along time I kept feeling that G-d wanted me to do something. I did everything I could think of. I got involved in as many ministries as possible, stretching myself thin and putting hardships on my family. I thought that he wanted us to downsize the stuff we'd accumulated I sold and donated the money or gave away about 80% of what we had including one of out vehicles. In the end it's when I stoped moving that he spoke and told me what I was failing to do. Not audible voice but a silence to the nagging feeling that He wants me to do something that I was failing to do and gave me peace. An end to the anxiety of knowing He wanted me on a path and I wasn't walking it. By a rush of understanding, not of why He wanted me on that path (it still perplexes me) but that I was walking in His will.
The distinction between doing and being is something developed nicely in the Experiencing God study. Yes, that's another plug....

I've glanced over some reviews about it, I'm just going to have th break down and do the study.

I took from this he did he hear it audibly, but no one else did so he figured it wasn't. Which is exactly what I'd expect to happen if God was audibly talking to one person (something others were not to hear) or to a prophet for him to communicate something to others. But it also seemed to be in his head like an inner voice, unlike normal audible speech.

By 'nothing audible' I meant that no one else could hear anything. To me, it was audible in my head but didnt seem to come from an outside source. Scary, weird. Today, I think that is how the prophets heard Him. Absolutely not my voice.

So hard to quantify and explain. Awesome and dreadful. Strong, firm comforting.

... my first vehicle was a '69 GMC van...

Please, please, please, please, please, pllllllllllllllllleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaasssssssssssssssssseeeeeeeeeee tell me there was shag carpeting, a rear spoiler and a round window. I need this van to have had all of those things. It's the missing piece of the puzzle of who you are.

Well, no round window or spoiler, but plenty of shag carpet, curtains on the windows, two bucket seats up front and nothing in the back but a coupla bean bag chairs. Perfect rock n roll band van. If that van could talk I would've had to find it and have it crushed.... ;)

Oh, Lord, I guess let's do this....

Like this (and about that color, but a little redder shade of copper):

But with windows all around, so like this (it's a Chevy, but same body):

Sorry Zec, no round window:
van 3.jpg

Back end completely open (except for a coupla bean bags and an ice chest) for hauling band gear, shag carpet floor and walls, wood paneling ceiling, curtains all around (incl between cargo space and front seats):

Add an under-dash Craig 8-track and four speakers and you are in teenage rock bass player heaven!

@andrew , oh my!! You just need to go ahead and dig deep in that closet... break out the lime green polyester suit and platform shoes... Confession is good for the soul.

Oh, I’ve got plenty to confess as far as the 70s are concerned, but leisure suits and platform shoes aren’t on the list!:p

I am so happy right now.

So you got me curious and I had to look it up (same way I got into plural marriage...).

Shag-as-in-carpet is from AngloSaxon/Norse roots referring to coarse hair. Includes carpet, facial hair, cloth, and coarsely cut tobacco.

Shag-as-in-you-know-what is from an obsolete verb that meant 'to shake or waggle, to move back and forth'. Approx the same as 'frig'....

I really want to say something about strawberries right now, but desperately trying to refrain.... ;)

The drink?

Is this the shag you guys are looking for?
Well, except that mine was more of a cadet blue, up to the windows, paneling on the ceiling, and no intricate furnishings, sure!

I think I might become one of those guys who later in life starts collecting the cars (or in this case, vans) of his youth....
