Is Porn Use good for Christians?

Just tossing this out there:

Can a man admire someone else's wife without coveting her for himself?

The scriptural argument against porn for the addict goes something like this:
1. Men are supposed to be attracted to women. (Adam being presented with Eve, etc.)
2. Sexual arousal is not in and of itself wrong. Otherwise Song of Solomon could not be included in the Bible.
3. Matt. 5:27-28 should be translated "but I say to you that everyone who gazes intently at a [married] woman in order to covet her has already committed adultery with her in his heart."
4. Sexual arousal from looking at women is not a sin, BUT there are restrictions in our freedom. @The Revolting Man 's article covers the don't be creepy stuff at the end pretty well.
5. Porn (watching people have sex) involves fornication or other sexual immorality. Watching it implies support for their actions. Rom. 1:32 says supporting sin is basically as bad as doing it yourself.
6. Masturbation is not forbidden and if you are too young for a wife or can't find one you may do so without looking at porn.

Putting sexual arousal from a hot girl on instagram on the same level as watching porn, which is basically what the western feminist mainstream church teaches, leaves men hopelessly enslaved to their design. Why shun porn when looking at a hot girl walking by is just as bad? That is the thought that needs to be broken, in my opinion.
On a personal level, and those who know me can probably give you the reasons why, I consider anything to show a man penetrating a woman to be off limits. I think I can show through scriptural principles that is wrong. I would advise anyone against consuming those kinds of images.

But I can’t forbid it outright. I find it interesting that God doesn’t explicitly forbid drug use either. I think there’s some deep truths in that too.

This is certainly one of the more evil things the church has done. Too many pastors never studied enough to realize that the same word translated wife throughout the book of Mathew was deliberately translated woman in the passage where Yeshua equates lusting after her to adultery of the heart. Same word....usually translated wife but not here? I smell a Roman biased rat!

The problem with idolatry is the stupidvand dumb thing that is NOTHING that has NO AUTHORITY ....Sadly gets empowered once enough fools bow down to it.

I suspect a Mormon cousin's marriage just ended after 4 short years because he was never taught how to use his God given authority in his home, to order it. He may have had issues with porn. I never heard he did but the frustrations he had were not from being satisfied with his wife. She probably had no idea how to be a good wife or show her young husband respect, and many are happier moving on then working on what they have.

I think so. My understanding of covet is desiring to take something away from its proper owner.

I think it may come down to how men view women. From my understanding, men see parts of women. Prageru has a good video on the power of the visual, where he points out advertising with just women's legs, but women are advertised to differently. When a man admires another man's wife, he is not thinking "Gosh I should would like to take her for myself." He is thinking, "She looks really good," and that can be arousing. It has nothing to do with her person.

Honestly its probably closer to coveting if it goes any deeper than looks. If a man gets respect from another man's wife and he isn't getting that from his own wife, that is more likely to cause the man to covet than just her looks.

I was reading Galatians 5:9 and came across the word translated "sensuality" in the NASB95 in a list of the fruit of the flesh. I looked at the Interlinear on Blue Letter Bible and discover the greek word used there is "aselgeia". King James translates it "lasciviousness". (Lasciviousness is why I wasn't allowed to go to school dances as a kid.) The following link is a helpful word study. The common idea seems to be a lack of shame. "Sensuality" in today's terms I believe is another misleading translation. I can actually see where the prohibition on going to school dances would come from, though.

A key Scripture showing the sinfulness of pornography is seen in the ISV's Ezekiel 23:
14 “She became even more sexually immoral when she saw the images of the Chaldean men who had been carved in red on their walls. 15 Girded with waistbands around their loins, with flowing turbans on their heads, all of them looked like chariot officers, similar to the Babylonians from Chaldea, where they had been born.
16 “She lusted after them when she saw them, so she sent messengers to summon them from Chaldea. 17 The Babylonians came to her love nest and defiled her with their sexual immorality. As a result, she was defiled by them. Even so, she turned away from them in disgust. 18 She displayed her immorality publicly and stripped herself naked, so I turned away in disgust from her, just as I had turned away in disgust from her sister."

Her response to the "images" is like the sinner's response to pornography, having evil or sinful sexual desire for the images and the people they represent. This chapter plus Proverbs 5 shows that the doing of and and the desire to do the breasts of a woman who is not one's own marital partner is sin.

That’s not pornography though, those images are quite clearly clothed.

Agreed, and the passage speaks of a woman who belongs to another but is lusting after and giving herself to others in adultery. Any woman who belongs to another man and looks at clothed or unclothed men in person or images is an adulteress at heart. And it's not the fault of the man for wearing nice clothes!

This is a woman looking, its much different.

I think its a good thing that a man can admire a womens beauty clothes on and off, for me I feel its clear I should not be visually enjoying the fruits of unrighteous acts and wickedness, it brings me sorrow to see the whoredoms of these women destroy themselves and to know there is men capitalizing on the destruction of their souls. I do think the internet makes access to this too easy and not personal. I think it would be better to be hiding in a whore house telling them to repent. there is a lot of warnings historically about the dangers and risks of desiring women so caution is important especially with the sketchy ones..

it is interesting that it seems Sampson stirring up trouble with the philistines stopped by to visit a harlot on his way to mess with them...was it an example of him defiling them? mocking them? was it counted to him as transgression? in Judges 16 maybe I dont have good understanding in that.... Judging by the fact he he ripped the doors off the city leaving them vulnerable I would speculate he didn't pay the harlot. seems like where Sampson went wrong was when he gave his strength over to Delilah

1Then went Samson to Gaza, and saw there an harlot, and went in unto her.

2And it was told the Gazites, saying, Samson is come hither. And they compassed him in, and laid wait for him all night in the gate of the city, and were quiet all the night, saying, In the morning, when it is day, we shall kill him.

3And Samson lay till midnight, and arose at midnight, and took the doors of the gate of the city, and the two posts, and went away with them, bar and all, and put them upon his shoulders, and carried them up to the top of an hill that is before Hebron.

4And it came to pass afterward, that he loved a woman in the valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah.

I came across this list of verses in my wife's Bible Study the other day and it reminded me of this post. When I wrote the post, it was just a conclusion I had come to, but here are verses that back it up. If you asked modern wives what draws their husband's away, they would likely say something along the lines of "pretty, younger scantily clad women." But the Proverbs have a different lesson for us. How are men led astray? Through speech.

[Pro 2:16 NASB95] 16 To deliver you from the strange woman, From the adulteress who flatters with her words;

[Pro 5:3-4 NASB95] 3 For the lips of an adulteress drip honey And smoother than oil is her speech; 4 But in the end she is bitter as wormwood, Sharp as a two-edged sword.

[Pro 6:24 NASB95] 24 To keep you from the evil woman, From the smooth tongue of the adulteress.

[Pro 7:5 NASB95] 5 That they may keep you from an adulteress, From the foreigner who flatters with her words.

Physical attraction catches the attention of men, but it does not keep it for long. As we know, men like physical variety, but we stick around for more. Hence, wives being commanded to Revere their husbands. This same idea was captured in the YA fantasy book Magician: Apprentice.

My personal opinions- Studies show how negatively porn effects the women doing it and the people watching it for varies reasons; porn stars report being abused in the industry, many have substance/drug addictions or develop them in the future to cope with doing porn. It's a mistake that you can't take back, it's always on the internet, no matter how much you change your life later on. The industry targets girls who are 18 or going on 18 years old for a reason...many are immature, they need quick money and they don't understand the long term impact of their decisions.

Men and even women develop porn addictions, addictions lead to wanting more extreme things, lead to you hurting people, leads to isolation, hinders learning social and relationship skills. Combine that with how much time people spend online socializing instead of in the real world and you get the generation we have today.

Almost everything I base my opinion off of is would I want someone I love doing this? That would be a big no.

I refuse to support by watching it, not that I haven't before because I have but quickly lost interest because honestly I just don't understand the fascination with watching random naked people that I have absolutely no emotional connection with, pretending to enjoy sex with each other. I get the whole "but guys like naked women" stuff but my personally I assume someone who is so easily entertained by porn isn't very intelligent or is very emotionally immature, possibly both.

There are two types of men in this world, men who get hung up in naked women and men who get hung up on naked men. You pays your money and you takes your chances. Now if you don’t like men there’s always women.

But you’re missing the point of this conversation and the incredibly destructive effects both sides of this discussion have on the men who are fighting their baser natures in order to aspire to a higher standard.

You have to take the emotion and reflexive feminism out of it. At least when you’re dealing with the consumer. I have no ideas on how to interact with the models.

In the video below Dr. Dobson points out that Ted was a very intelligent man and obviously not immature.

For Ted Bundy, it all started with soft porn.

Funny you brought him up, was just talking to my friend about Ted Bundy last night. I think there are different variations of "smart" I would include being entertained by such over the top, fake acting as being emotionally immature/dumb. Ted Bundy was book smart, his IQ was around 130, I think? However he failed in college pretty badly, he had to sucker his way into many positions in life by outright lying and he did so in a decade where fact checking didn't seem easily accessible.

I've read many books about him and I'd have to disagree with him not being immature. A few of his ex girlfriends referred to him as impulsive and immature, they even broke up with him due to those reasons. Also Dr. Dobson interviewed Ted Bundy before his execution, he would have been in his 40s, he killed in the 70s, I would assume he had matured some by then. If i'm wrong please correct me, i'm just going off of memory alone and that's not much to speak of lol

Also porn in the 70s was quite different than the porn that is out there today, which is what I was referencing for the most part. I find it interesting that Ted blamed even the porn of the 70s for its role in him being the way he was.

Thank you for the video, i'm going to check it out when I get on my laptop.

Never said I don't like men also no thanks lol

I'll go back and read it because I didn't get that impression.

I think taking the emotion out of it is the problem to begin with. People forget these are people who are hurting and being exploited for their entertainment.

Also feminism tells me to believe the opposite of what I do. It tells me to accept porn, even encourages it as a "woman's freedom", promotes is as a way to fight against being over sexualized by men by using it to empower women. I don't agree with that, I think and know that both men and women are being negatively effected by it.

I hope y'all realize that I'm speaking mostly about using it excessively, just as anything it becomes even more harmful.
