Texas retreat Jan 20-22nd, 2023 - a great time in Houston

Given that it's January, and I hear ice storms happen like every week in Texas, we're leaning towards something south of Waco, but that still leaves about a million square miles to pick from. Prices of hotels will be a major factor, bribes may also be accepted to consider your hometown.

We'll try to nail location in September, and the date is likely to stick unless there's something major that I'm not aware of right now, like NFL playoff games that weeken... oh, looks like Sunday lunch is at a sports bar.

If someone knows somewhere besides a hotel meeting room that we should consider, bring it forward soon.
And add it to your calendar now!

We have never been to a retreat so we don't know what to expect: speaker? hang out? bring instruments? bring games? Any input would be helpful . . .

Mostly just wonderful conversations and fellowship. Don’t worry about bringing anything. Sessions are discussion on particular topics that are relevant. Some praise and worship, stuff like that. Laid back and easy going.

Each time I have come I've been straight off a plane with hand luggage only, and minimal hand luggage at that. The last time I came I was in the USA for 10 days to attend a scientific conference and a BF retreat, and carrying one change of clothes and a few pairs of underpants. I was extensively questioned by border security wondering what I could possibly be doing in the country for 10 days with so little luggage, it looked suspicious to them.

So you really don't need to take anything (unless you want to). But bring some cash in case there's a book table, you may go home with more than you came with!
 
https://shepherdspasture.com/ is in Jefferson TX Far NE TX. It is run buy Christians but is geared for Military retreats. I know they have quite an assortment of accommodations but I myself do not know what is required by our families here. Just a suggestion. I have stayed there and it is a very nice place.
