Summer 2022 Family Retreat recap and post-retreat discussion

It was a great retreat, but despite Zec’s awesome interpretive Bible story,, I found the drama factor to be a quart low.
There’s nothing like a couple of rounds of squalling to add that authentic family experience.

Just kidding, it was truly great.

Jennifer and I swung through Gatlinburg, for a “short look around “ that cost me 300+ before I got out of there. Lol. Jennifer and I needed this so bad. It was the closest thing to organized worship that we have been a part of for years.
We found new friends and family and are excited to explore them all. It is strange ( not the correct word ) that the Lord gives you peace when, meeting new people that you are suppose to be around.
There was one surprise to us. No one had two heads. We were kinda counting on it “we wanted pictures” 😂. We felt and experienced Godly love, we both are looking forward to staying in contact with everyone and will do our level best to have a presence on Bibfam.
Thank you to the Bender family for all they do for us to make these retreats a reality
In his service Jack

This was the best retreat we've been too. They've all been good (sort of🤣), but like Steve said, little to no drama. You could feel Yah's presence. See how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in unity –
Tehillim (Psalms) 133:1

I was so excited to know that I was real too! Alas, my identity as a real person still seems to be unconfirmed 😞 lol

On a side note I already miss the fellowship and meeting other real people haha
I'm sure @nathan will eventually add in as a Real Person each woman or man who was a first-time retreat attendee!

I want everyone who has not gone to a retreat to know something. Nathan does not actually look like his profile photo. I for one was reassured @julieb did not actually marry a dog.
Well that's a disappointment!
Too bad, right? Otherwise you could have suggested becoming wife #3 . . .

I have a dumb question. If marriage isn't mentioned in the Bible then why are so many religious people against gay marriage?
Spiritually: "Marriage" is the name we give to the wholesome, God-designed relationship between a man and a woman. Homosexuality on the other hand is a sin. "Gay marriage" puts this sin on the same level as the wholesome relationship God intended. It "calls evil good" (Isaiah 5:20), which is a serious matter.

Practically: "Marriage" is the name we give to the stable society-accepted partnership formed by a man and a woman, intended to provided stability and security for the children that most such relationships will produce (despite a few sadly being infertile). The whole practical point of it is around childbearing. "Gay marriage" is an intentionally sterile relationship with no practical purpose whatsoever - no children will result, so there is no need to form such a union to give them stability. They can have as much gay sex as they like whether or not they've got the label of "marriage", so why do they want the label? Only to confuse.

Incidentally, there are many homosexuals who disagree with gay marriage for reason 2. Most gays don't want marriage, only a few outspoken activists - wherever it is legalised only a tiny fraction of the gay population actually uses it, they simply aren't interested. This silent majority doesn't get the media attention though, because Satan's intention is to use gay marriage as a tool to tear apart the foundations of our society, anything that contradicts that goal doesn't get airtime.

zakerly!
Satan counterfeits what is good and makes a cheap junk imitation that doesn't work as God intended.

Speaking of beards....

Can I say this? I hope no one minds [I toned it down a little]. I watched half the video and thought, "Geesh. Looks like some men spend way too much time in front of the mirror." My dad introduced me to the term, "Metrosexual", a few years ago. Big eye roll. That's what this beard style video reminds me of. Gag. Sorry, brothers, if this is you; I'm not trying to be offensive.

I think Zek oversold this idea. If our idea of marriage is what the scripture says, then yes marriage does exist. H2859 - ḥāṯan can mean coming under law with or marrying depending on what english we want to use. Ezra 9:14 is an easy example. Also this word Gamos is all over the NT and the included verb form gameos too. Just make sure your idea of marriage meets the scripture. We also know there was a wedding in Cana where water was turned to wine.

I realize this isnt a marriage thread but hey why not!
