• Biblical Families is not a dating website. It is a forum to discuss issues relating to marriage and the Bible, and to offer guidance and support, not to find a wife. Click here for more information.

Modern Polygamy is now free!

I have an account and would really like to leverage it more (i.e. do anything) but unwilling to do the verification. I understand AI is a problem. I own/operate a couple companies in high-tech and work with / build on top of AI daily so I get the concern... However, now instead of whether I trust individuals, I have to decide if I trust the site.

Consider: Being able to sign up, purchase points/membership using burner phones and prepaid cards are individual tools to remain anonymous on the web. It's sub-optimal but current reality. If you meet someone interesting, exchange numbers, talk/facetime, eventually share more personal details, that remains your decision and in your control. <insert random site> does not need any actual information so I don't have to trust the operators.

With this ModernPolygamy verification approach, I have to trust the site owner. I have no reason not to trust, but there is very little details (none) as to who operates it, where the data goes, how its stored/deleted, what happens to the video after, etc. Also, I would be remiss if I didn't say AI can still conquer this. In fact, anyone can record this video and it proves nothing other than someone took the time to make the video.

Sorry for the unsolicited feedback because I like the clean appeal of the site and want to use it but cannot under current parameters.

Actually we do know the owner. He interacts here periodically. You can find their profile in this thread.

To be clear, I am not suggesting the site is bad or the owner is misrepresenting their intentions. I am saying as a casual user who saw the site before I even saw this forum, I had and continue to have concerns about this verification model. Perhaps, provide the verification video as an alternate to a credit card or other options generally.

FWIW, I appreciate the discussion here because I had dismissed the site out of hand and now I view it more favorably.

As I understand his intent he simply had to reduce the hands on work the site required of him and this was the simplest way to do that.

I get the concern, but I do disagree with the main concerns. The only thing we have on you is an e-mail address and IP. Everyone has that, including this site. Yes, you're putting a face and voice with it. ...use a one-time use e-mail address and VPN. Now you are one of the billions of people on the planet and could be anybody.

Better yet, choose a really common username so the username you will be verifying could be for any site, not just us (you don't have to say anything except your username in the video).

And AI can't yet (barely) do this. ...what it does do is show that a real live moving person is the same as in the pictures. So, no AI pictures because the guy in the video better match the stills.

Regarding the credit card option. We were a paid site until earlier this year. In that time, I put a lot of effort into making sure that paying members had my support, advice, and scrutiny. Always trying to run a tight ship.

But, a tight ship takes a toll on its hands, and that cost comes in the form of time. I found myself with less and less of it that I could justify devoting to the site. At the same time, I wasn't going to let the quality drop off or keep charging a hefty sum if I couldn't feel that I could give the paying members what I felt they deserved in exchange.

My issue was time, and I eventually decided that the best compromise that wasn't compromising was to make it free but with verification instead of money as payment....a lot for the same reason (a filter for those that were serious), but also because they would now be the only ones visible so I only needed to review them instead of every account, as before.

Hope this sheds some light on why things are set up the way they are.
