Is Porn Use good for Christians?

I would like to point

Amongst the "fundamentalist" groups are those who erroneously believe that we must have 2, 3, or more wives to become like God. This is NOT a brush that you should paint all Mormon Polygamists with, any more than we should paint all protestants as followers of one creed or another.

First of all welcome. Glad you stopped by and thank you for the clarification.

As you yourself said there are those Mormons that do say that "we must have 2, 3, or more wives to become like God". So I was not wrong. What percentage believe and teach this will be left as an exercise for the reader.

In fact, many Fundamentalist Mormons are not practicing polygamists, they merely are willing to practice it as they interpret the scriptures to read that they must.

They "must"?

Because you made a statement that wasn’t representative of the facts.
If you say so. However I will point out that your opinion does not equal facts. So unless you are Mormon, you actually know nothing first hand and hearsay is non admissible. Thank you now please enjoy your life and ignore me.

Oh no, that works both ways. Your opinion is also not fact and unless you’re a non-Mormon Christian of some flavor you actually know nothing of us firsthand and your hearsay is also non-admissable.

And I defy you to ignore me. Go ahead. Try.

I used be a non Mormon minister, my father was a penacostal preacher, my uncle was a Baptist preacher. I went to Bible school and gave a Doctorate in Divinity that predates my becoming LDS... So, there is that.. Currently I'm working on a PhD in Metaphysics though... I went to a Mennonite high school, a non-denomination Christian elementary school... I think I know something.

I'm sure you do, and it would be very interesting to have such a discussion with you at some point. Unfortunately, as you're outnumbered here any such discussion may end up somewhat one-sided and possibly intimidating, which can't really be helped unfortunately, it's mostly down to statistics.

If you don't want to discuss these theological matters, don't. There are lots of non-Mormon forum members, it is inevitable that someone will say something you find provocative. You can't control all of them - but you can control the one of you. Choose to engage in the discussions you want to have, and ignore invitations to discussions you do not wish to have.

But I for one would find such a discussion interesting, if it were to occur calmly. I have very little understanding of Mormonism as there are very few of them in New Zealand. If I were to ask one question in such a discussion, it would be "what do you see as the differences between Mormonism and Protestantism - what views did you change in making your conversion"? I don't expect you to answer that question though, as I don't think you want that discussion, and that's completely fine.

We’ll see. I remain unconvinced. I’ve known too many Pentecostal and Baptist ministers. Besides, your initial claim was still incorrect.

So we addressed men and the use of visual porn, but what about romance novels for women? Many people people literally call it porn for women. The harm it may cause is very similar to the harm caused by visual porn for men like unrealistic expectations. Can it be prohibited as sin by any of the commands we have in scripture, though? (Obviously, a husband can forbid his wife from reading such things at his discretion.)

I think male centered visual types of porn are a detriment to mental health for men, and set unhealthy and unrealistic expectations as well as destroy/steal joy. Definitely not wise, good, or advisable.

Likewise female centered porn like romance novels and feminist hallmark/lifetime/romance movies and shows are bad news. They train a woman's mind to have unrealistic expectations and unhealthy attitudes about everything in their life. Almost every one of those romance movies follows an anti-male and unbiblical script. Handsome, successful man meets dominant, aggressive beautiful woman, they fall in love, he abandons HIS goals and career, mission in life to become HER helper to push her into success with her mission in life. It's a complete 180 upside down fantasy that flips on it's head the biblical gender roles. The man submits his will and life to the woman and becomes her helpmeet.

Even if a woman understands that it's not realistic, should she be filling the horizons of her mind with those messages?

Even if a man understands the perfect bodied pornstar who enthusiastically engages in gymnastics in the bedroom isn't realistic, should he be filling the horizons of his mind with images and the message of what she's selling?

Whatsoever things are of Good Report.

We should be filling our minds with examples of Godly behavior, and righteous living. With examples of how we ought to behave. Not washing our consciousness in examples of unrighteousness. Eeeeeeven if you consider it somewhat tame and unharmful, you shouldn't be baptizing your mind into something that will establish patterns of thinking in yourself that make it less convenient to think on the righteous path.

It's like a trail, when you beat the trail down, it's easier to follow. If you beat a trail down towards feminist agenda ideology media knowing full well that what you're doing is grooving your mind to think down that path, I call that foolishness. Utter and unabashed folly. The same goes for a man grooving his mind to dwell on the nakedness of what does not belong to him.

Write God's Righteousness on your minds and hearts. Not Roman-tic feminist ideology, or the nakedness of a whore. Both are destructive to your psyche.

Must be willing to be in such a marriage. Sorry, my post truncated.

Romance novels describe men which women see as perfect. Women don't have a duty to buy such novels, therefore any man described in high-selling novels has women's approval. Otherwise novel wouldn't sell.

Do people here believe that women would buy novel where main hero is coward and weakling? No, their visceral reaction would be disgust.

Instead of claiming novels are unrealistic, maybe, maybe, men here can learn how to become more attractive.

People here love to talk how men are supposed to be provided and protectors. If, maybe, you have bothered to pay attention to men from novels you will notice they also look muscular, have fashion sense, are physically impossing etc... How to adding such tools in next wife attraction toolkit?

At worst such effort will be rewarded with more fire inside inside your current lady(ies).

If your ask me, money and sex are same. Problems from too much are far better than problems from too little.

They have absolutely no issues talking about how the ideal woman should look as well.

I totally fell in love with Love Comes Softly, by Janette Oke. It is a story where love grew in a very unlikely situation.
So I read more of her novels, but lost my enjoyment as I noticed the pattern that she fell into. The women were always the spiritual leaders and the men just darkened the church doorway often enough to keep them placated. Good men though, don’tcha know.
But the women were subtly superior. Feeding that ego.

Yeah, I prefer the Lake Woebegone standard.

“Where all the women are strong, all the men are good-looking, and all the children are above average”.

Absolutely, men should be working on their physical fitness, working towards an optimal weight with intensity and focus. Learn how to be deadly, not dress like slobs, pursue their purpose in life with drive and vigor. It's silly to be a bottom rung man and expect to get multiple women. Work on being top tier. For that matter, all men and women no matter their marital status should strive to be physically fit, mentally strong, focused on their tasks in life. Women appreciate a man with muscle and power. Men appreciate a woman with a nice figure and joyful countenance.

My wives laugh and have a dig at me as I'm officially obese now. I had to take a medical checkup for a new driver's license a few weeks back. The scrawny little assistant measured my height and weight, looks at a chart and it says that's obese, so he types Obese in the health column. I may be over 60 but I still pump weights and my arms are bigger than my little wife's legs! That's life now; you have to fit in line with the official data so I'm labelled as obese.
