4/20 Pastor

And reconcile it with Matthew 11:19:
“The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Look, a glutton and a winebibber, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ But wisdom is justified by her children.”

Jesus behaved in a way that made uninformed observers think badly about him, because he associated with the wrong people and behaved in ways that they considered borderline or suspicious. Yet he did not actually sin. It was wrong for anyone to accuse him of sin, or of encouraging sin. It was still right for them to wonder and ask the question - they were after all trying to figure out who he was and whether they should follow him too. We all know the correct conclusion was that he was not actually sinning and was genuinely trying to attract people on the edge of society to God.

Likewise, it's good to ask whether this preacher is doing the right thing - but we aren't really the people to ask that question, that is a matter for the elders of his church to judge, knowing the social context and the people he is trying to reach. From our perspective we can only conclude he is neither sinning nor overtly encouraging sin. Beyond that is an operational matter for the elders of his church and is not for us to judge.

Drinking is not a sin getting drunk is as where Paul said to be filled with excess is sin. I can absolutely judge as we are told to test things whether they be of God or not. Smoking dope to the point of being high enough to have the munchies falls under being filled with excess. Also, who in their right mind as a Believer in Jesus Christ would think it appropriate that a man who is supposed to have the Holy Spirit can entertain the wickedness drugs which alter the brain and body, hey we can agree to disagree on this topic but please do not say my conviction on this is wrong just like I won’t say your lack of conviction on this is wrong. I sure am glad we made the rule that smoking to get high and drinking to get drunk is a sin. I think that was Levititicus or something like that or maybe the Dutiticus, oh whatnot but it definitely is a sin. That's what the dude behind the pulpiter said and he is trust worthy, he got voted in last bisness meeting. or not. Did we add a few more commandments yet? Now that we are at it, can we make one for speedo bikinis on 300 pound dudes or half shaved women? Anybody else have a sin suggestion? How about a "Thou shalt not talk about..." See, I can be brave while tapping on a keyboard.

@ASyers41, you're still reacting emotively and reading things into that video that were never said.

If a preacher said "if you've had a hard Saturday night at the pub and have a hangover, come to church and we'll give you something to eat and drink to help you sober up, and teach you about Jesus", would he be encouraging drunkenness?

@ASyers41 I can see that you’re frustrated but folks aren’t arguing convictions. What many of us are pointing out is biblical permissibility, or even outright silence from scripture regarding your conviction.

It’s not about desiring a pot den in our assemblies. Marijuana isn’t even the point.

We are trying to be biblical purists around here. The rest of the Christian world lumps polygyny in with other convictions they have regarding sexual practices. Those convictions may or may not all be purely biblical.

Unfortunately, when you go down this road into accepting a culturally, but not biblically, prohibited lifestyle, you’ll have to be prepared to look at ALL issues through a different lense.

I’m not frustrated at all so you clearly don’t know me well. I am just choosing not to continue debating because I have stated my view point and no longer feel the need to state my conviction on this.
