Church and state being unified in form and in fact existed long before Constantine. The Roman Emperors were themselves deified in their lifetimes and, as such, were combined heads of state and church.
The Pharaohs were the same thing, combined heads of state and church.
The Gospel was not unified with the state. It was in direct opposition to the state. "If the world hates you - know it hated me first." Hence, the followers of the Way being persecuted throughout the earth. Then Lucifer's child came along - merging the state with the church - and thus came the leaven and the weeds.
But according to the book of Revelation - Lucifer is only at war with those that keep the commandments of the Father in Heaven through faith in his Son. Believers in the Son can not repent of their sin - if they believe that the law that defines sin is done away with. How can someone repent from sin if the law was nailed to the cross? How do we even define sin (Hint: 1 John 3:4)? But don't worry - the state will define sin and its state sponsored (501c3) pastors and popes - with their billions and billions in tax savings - will preach - deceive - and control billions of people.
James said that the law is liberty that sets us free. Free from what? Bondage from the ministers of Lucifer - who preach that the Creator's perfect law of liberty was nailed to the cross - and replaced it with a state-approved set of laws and ordinances (man's laws and traditions). What does Jeremiah say about these traditions? "
We've inherited nothing but lies from our fathers." (Jeremiah 16:19). Also - in Hosea 4:6-7 - the people that claim to follow the Savior are being destroyed because they reject knowledge, and have forgotten the law (torah). It's easy for the church to forget what the law says if the preacher says it was nailed to the cross, and done away with. If someone accepts this lie - then they can be further deceived. The eventual fruit is that lawlessness abounds - because the weapon the Son used against the devil (The Son quoted the law three times on the mountain against the devil) - has been dis-harmed - through the craftiness of the serpent. All of a sudden - there are many paths to God - and we can choose whatever law we like.
Isaiah 33:22
For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our king; it is he who will save us.
It doesn't say the state - it doesn't say the preacher - it doesn't say Lucifer - it says the Creator - who is our Savior.
Whatever any apostle taught - it had to be according to what's already written in the law:
1 Corinthians 9:8
Do I say this merely on human authority? Doesn’t the Law say the same thing?
Otherwise, they are not true apostles (Isaiah 8:20). But instead, ministers of Lucifer imitating as teachers of light:
2 Cor 11:14-15
And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness.
One clear example of Paul teaching in accordance to what is already written in the law:
1 Cor 7:2
“Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own [heautou – exclusively owned] wife, and let every woman have her own [idios – shared] husband.”
Side Note: The Son quoted the law 3 times against the devil on the mountain, and after the 3rd time he was gone. Foreshadow to 3 separate comings and battles with the devil?
1st coming: Satan tempted him to not do the sacrifice. Remember - when Peter discouraged him from following through with his plan? The Son put the blame on satan for trying to stop his sacrifice.
2nd coming: Satan loses the battle of armageddon, and he is thrown into prison for 1,000 years.
3rd coming: Satan gets released from prison to deceive all the nations of the earth - he gathers them in his final showdown against God (Gog and Magog war) - he loses - and is gone for good (lake of fire). This occurs around the same time as the much prophesied greater exodus - the fulfillment of the final feast of the year (Sukkot). The first coming brought the fulfillment of the first feasts of the year (passover/sacrifice). The 3rd coming brings forth the last feast of the year (Sukkot/Greater Exodus).
