Not for everyone?

Do you ever feel that polygyny is not for all believers?
God opened my eyes to the truth about plural marriage in December 2024, so I'm a bit obsessed with all this at the moment. Like many others my wife doesn't want to hear about it yet and I feel like I want to speak to a close friend about it but I'm scared that I will awaken thoughts and desires in his life that was not my place to awaken.
What are your thoughts?

From what I understand from Scripture marriage is for most people, whether believer or unbeliever. God made us this way. If you want to be married once, that's fine scripturally. If you want to be married more than once, that's also fine. The issue isn't with God, but with this ungodly system we live in. Ungodly people follow the ungodly system; they're dead in trespasses and sins, and walking according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience (Eph. 2:1-2).

When Jesus was on earth, He lived and walked in the ungodly system that permeated the world. He was sinless, always doing what was good and right. You know what happened to Him, right? Don't expect anything better when you don't go with the system, whether that is about marriage or anything else.

Let’s start with the fact that there are males who haven’t proven themselves mature enough to be the leader of one wife. So not even monogamy is a “right” that anyone can expect.

Should everyone know the truth about plural marriage? Of course, but they also should be taught that they aren’t automatically qualified for it simply by being male.
Understanding this truth has the potential benefit of encouraging a man to up his game and be a better husband in possible anticipation of being the husband of multiple wives.

Polygyny, and His Instruction about it, is CENTRAL to an understanding of Covenant, His relationship to us, and how all of His Word is a unified Whole.

"Believers" cannot claim to be anything of the sort unless they are willing to BELIEVE Him. Take Him at His Word. All of it. Every single "yod and tiddle."

I shared our beliefs with practically everyone for 20 years before my husband found another wife. It alienated some, and really made no real difference in acceptance. They had 20 years to research it....but didn't. They had all those years to process it and accept it as biblical, but they didn't. They do know we weren't hiding our belief and were open to discussion.....and that we didn't just make a snap decision to live this way.

We really shouldn't have to worry about the sharing of the truth or our faith. I say it is up to your friend to choose how he processes the biblical understanding.

In the same way I believe celibacy is a valid way to live, even an admirably holy way to live for those called to it and able to actually do it (and I'll gladly debate that scripturally) - but I'm not celibate, it's not my calling. I don't have to live everything I believe is valid, in fact it would be impossible to do so.

Paul had a lot to say about the different offices/callings within the assembly. What office/calling would you say he held?

Curious, scripturally speaking what excludes someone from being plural marriage material or marriage material in general? Asking because I've seen some pretty less-than-perfect people make all sorts of marital situations work...
In Biblical times a man had to get the father’s permission to marry his daughter. A father wouldn’t give his daughter to a man who wasn’t industrious and sober.
They didn’t get married until he had established himself and was more in his later 20s. This sorted out the men from the boys.
It wasn’t about falling in love.

I would advise a woman today to use that same yardstick to measure the father of her future children.

Some fathers raise boys, some raise MEN!

Knowing the goal makes a difference in the outcome.

Ummm....

If Americans were sober no Prohibition would be needed. And since American population did increase by natural means and with culture of strong monogamy only......well, sober advice wasn't followed.
