What are daughters of a foreign/strange god?

11 Judah has broken faith. A detestable thing has been committed in Israel and in Jerusalem: Judah has desecrated the sanctuary the LORD loves, by marrying the daughter of a foreign god.
Malachi 2:11 NIV 1984

11Judah hath dealt treacherously, and an abomination is committed in Israel and in Jerusalem; for Judah hath profaned the holiness of the LORD which he loved, and hath married the daughter of a strange god.
Malachi 2:11 KJV

someone from another faith or foreign country would be my take on it.

One of them - condemned numerous times in Scripture - has names like "Ashteroth", "Astarte", Ishtar, and "Easter"...

Which countries?

If it is all countries then, than what about scripture that permits marriage of women from certain countries other than Israel?

If it is only some countries then that would not apply to the countries it would not apply to.

If it means faith rather than country, is this the first and only time this is forbidden or is it forbidden elsewhere in scripture?
