Was it bad too turn their rediculous objection into a joke?

Someone said if I should not marry more than one women because the women would fight?

And I said as a joke I would rather have them fight each other than fight me

(Although I did not think they would really fight each other)

Do you think this was a bad witness, or just a hilarious joke because what they said was not (always) true in the first place?

It is kinda like saying if you marry one and only one woman she might fight you so you should not practice monogamy

Re: Was it bad too turn their rediculous objection into a jo

I don't think it was wrong to joke about it, especially as an honest in depth answer would have most likely started a larger fight.

My response: "People often fight with one another due to ignorance or misunderstanding. As the head of my household, I would surely see such issues coming up before they came to the point of physical altercation. I would not allow them to mistreat one another, as I don't let anyone mistreat my wife, especially if the persecutor were my other wife."

I tell my kids often when they argue with their mother, "You need to obey the authority God has given you, and your mother does have authority (under my headship). You also should not ever talk to my wife with disrespect, as that dishonors me." God's Word says to honor your father and your mother, to obey them in everything. Even if I had two wives, my children should obey my wife even if it were not their mother, as doing so is to obey me and honor God.

If one REALLY wants to joke, how about ...

So just how hard is it to setup a mud pit in the garage?

Might even put an extra fridge out there, and stock it with your favorite beverage. Keep a supply of small denomination bills for tips. After all, if they insist on fighting ...

Other good answer would be to look thoughtful, stroke one's chin, say, "Hmmm..." and "Well, you might have a point ,,,", then quote the old rebbetzin's poem: (rebbetzin: Wife of a rebbe or rabbi)

One is too few,
Two will fight,
Three will take sides, but
Four's jusr right!

Guess you'll have to marry 4!
