On the topic of Avatars, and intriguing rear elevations, and government-issued license plates attached to rear, um, bumpers? Trunks? that say "Marriage" ... (Yup, I FINALLY got it! )

You will notice that CecilW's Cecorilla avatar (who knows how long it will be up) does NOT have a Marriage License attached thereto. Neither did the SirBumbleBerry gnome avatar.

That is because ... (Here comes the SERIOUS nugget for our tie-bound friends! :o  ) ... (drum roll, fifes playing) ...

Neither Cecorilla, nor Sir BumbleBerry, nor even CecilW believes that the government has ANY business being in the Marriage License business. They believe that to be ONE issue that God has clearly reserved unto Himself. "What GOD has joined together ..."

Please note, that this is even responsive, however light-heartedly, to a certain beloved serious scholar's inquiry (and if you notice the hidden pun, just smile! No true insult intended!).

ANY business being in the Marriage License business

And of the other questions? Should they, a rightfully constituted civil authority, have any say in the union or its individuals if it ends on bad terms (adultery, abuse, if one failed to fulfill his or her promised obligations)?

If not should there be anyone who does have a say in that beyond the two people?

And furthermore, if not in any sense either before or after, what should we think of the Mosaic Law that had civil rulers who actually did get involved and impose penalties upon parties for broken obligations or when man to man relations were damaged?

Nothing here as far as implications either, just serious questions.

Dr KR,

I intended this thread as a sorta light hearted followup on last night's fun. (Well, WE had a great time anyway! )

But I do acknowledge your questions. They are excellent, valid, serious, and so on. If it is ok with you, this evening after work is done and Sabbath starts, I'll respond seriously on your thread dedicated to that topic.

As you can well imagine, loudmouth that I am, I do have ideas and answers on this topic. Whether they are "right" or not, only God knows. But they do make sense to me, and were formulated over the last 25 or so years, heavily influenced by both Bible reading AND at least a dozen complete readings of "Atlas Shrugged" by Ayn Rand. (At between 30 and 36 hours time investment per reading, that is admittedly a LOT!)

Sure thing......and by all means laugh on with humor...I do not want to disrupt the purpose of this thread.
