I remember listening to an audio book of Bede's Ecclesiastical History of England, one of the big differences between the RCC and the native Celtic Church was the date of the celebration of Easter. RCC was absolutely adamant that the Celts must worship Easter during the "correct" week of the year. IIRC, Martin Madden actually alludes to the pettiness of this squabble in his intro the Thelyphthora.
 
Stories of the lone monk or priest wandering in the actual wilderness probably Celtic Catholic. I find one of the amazing things is as the Roman Empire and church was crumbling into the dark ages God used the Irish monasteries to persevere knowledge his word and the various Celtics from Ireland, Scottland, Wales and France to spread Christendom.
