For thousands of years, the idea that sexual activity is inherently evil has invaded the vain imaginations of men. How many thousands of times have we heard folks like Kirk Cameron twist the infamous lust passage (Mt 5:27-28)?
Sex is not evil. Taking another man's wife is evil. Sex is about ownership, subjugation, government. This is why it is an abomination for one man to lay with another as he would a woman: Because God decreed a certain earthly sovereignty for the man that it wrong to voluntarily give up.
Notice in the bible the difference between sleeping with a betrothed virgin and one that is not betrothed? The former gets the death penalty, the latter requires payment and sometimes marriage unless the father utterly refuses, Exodus 22:17. And that is sort of like prostitution when a man sleeps with a virgin and pays for it. So maybe our ideas on prostitution are not entirely in line with what God actually says.
I once read a great article that showed where the bible does not condemn all types of prostitution.
