Pope Francis Changes Catechism to Say Death Penalty ‘Inadmissible’
In an explanatory letter to bishops, CDF prefect Cardinal Ladaria states the change is an ‘authentic development of doctrine,’ building on the teaching of Pope St. John Paul II and Benedict XVI.

Are there any Catholics (or folks with Catholic background) actively commenting here? I am curious to hear your take on this change and the propaganda being used to push this. What is going on? How often do changes of this significance happen to the catechism?

I do not envy the position of lay Catholics these days. Francis seems to be really pushing changes to doctrine and outward stance while refusing to deal with the dark problems within. I'm seeing a lot of traditionalist Catholics having a hard time with this new administration.

No, this is not an invitation to refight the Reformation or get lost in the weeds of a debate on the death penalty. I'm more interested in the grassroots catholic view of this or any thoughts non-Catholics have about the underground machinations driving this.

I have an RC background in that I was 23 and a practicing RC when God saved me, but that was 36 years ago. However I knew very little about the RC religion until after I started reading the Bible and comparing RC doctrines with the Bible. It took about six weeks to stop the (bad) habit of attending the mass and find a Bible teaching assembly. Over the years I've learnt that most RC's don't know much about their religion or the Bible. FWIW, I don't care if the pope changes any catechism; I pray that he would abandon the RC religion and trust in the crucified and risen Saviour; Jesus Christ. May God have mercy on his soul and the millions he is leading to Hell.
