Actually I know just about the same amount about Satanism but you did not believe I am that! I am not Wiccan, if I was I would say so. But I know enough about both religions to know they are not interchangeable. If you want to stump me, talk about those Devil Worshipping Hare Krishna's or those bat head eating 7thDayAv. I know near nothing about them.

Ummm... Both are vegetarians!

But isn't vegetarianism Satanic??? I am sure I heard that somewhere.....

Why on earth would you want to go there? He clearly has ideals you are not agreeable with.

I didn't want to go there. However, I did want to see how he reacted to a pro-polygyny person.

Ok, well I think you should question this, he seems to tolerate other things which go against Christian teachings so what is his problem with Polygamy and question is tolerance. You see this is where advocacy would be useful, so it does not seem like you are taking it all on your own.

The advocacy group can write to them asking why he is discriminating against one of their members.
Discrimination is a hot button word!

This doesn't make sense, how can they invoke a being that they don't believe in at all and in fact reject entirely?

Short answer: Easy!

Most Christians believe that Satan is a literal entity. He exists, whether people believe he does or not. From a Christian perspective, Satanists and Wiccans are demonically inspired. Even if THEY don't believe in him, we believe that Satan is the foundation of their belief systems.

Satanists (who are essentially Atheists) don't really care what you believe. Wiccans tend to resent being accused of worshipping a being they don't believe in, however, Devil Worshippers aka Setites would be thrilled to be told Christians agree with them on something!

Anyway, no matter what Christians think is their inspiration, my point was about appreciating the distinction between their beliefs and practices. I appreciate that for you and many Christians it is all very much of muchness but when you speak of different traditions it is important to be able to distinguish between them, after all there is a very active topic going on right now about how different LDS are from you, it is not very nice when you wish to preserve your distinction and yet everyone keeps lumping you in with them isn't it?

Aaaah. Finally gotcha, Bels. A little slow today.

Good points, and thanks.

I never thought they did.

I was already aware of both, at least how they define themselves.

Was ME Bels was mainly getting after, Fairlight. I unthinkingly lumped them together this morning in an earlier post, though upon reflection I, too, knew the difference. Just hadn't thought about it in a long time.
