outbox question

I sent a private message to fellow member on this board, and the first couple of messages went to the sent messages folder, but then I reply this morning, went to the outbox folder, and I'm confused I guess as to why that is. Please forgive me ignorance and being new still to the site. I may accidentally sent the same message a few times, as again I'm confused to why they now go to the outbox and not the sent messages folder. Joshua, each message you send stays in your outbox until the recipient views it. So you can tell whether a message you send has been opened or not.

When a message you sends appears to go directly to your Sent messages folder, it's likely that the recipient saw the notification email arrive and then immediately went to view the message, so that it spent very little time in your outbox. But if you go to your outbox right after sending a message, before the person has time to view it, you'll always see it there.

Once a sent message has been read, it will show up in the Sent folder.
