Okay, hear me out... Absence of Polygamy sex stories

So, as much as I don't like to admit it, I have been a bit of a sex story junkie. There is a huge amount of content on the Web. Anyhoot, as much variety as there is out there, especially dealing in the taboo, I don't recall seeing many polygamy related ones.

It occurred to me that if polygamy, as so many people insist, we're really about sexual addiction and deviance, the devil would be all over that action.

The total absence of the topic amongst people who so obviously like the subject of having lots of intercourse with multiple partners seems stark.

It makes me think about why the devil would be interested to keep that one subject out of the mix.

Thoughts?

Right, like I'm guessing you don't see many stories about loving, fulfilling monogamous relationships that feature a married couple who has been together for a couple of decades finding sexual fulfillment with each other. Neither situation is actually taboo or salacious, no matter how much people who are against poly would like to paint it as such.

I understand. In the copious amounts of anime that I watch, it is a common trope for the protagonist to have several female characters fall in love with him and follow him wherever he goes, but it is extremely UN-common (like, I'm not sure if it exists) for the protagonist to end up marrying into a poly marriage. Even when there are clear discussions about in some form 'sharing' the protagonist, it's always nebulous and weird. Or the 'less favored' one sacrifices herself by blowing up her robot vehicle so that conflicting love interests are no longer a problem. Something classy.

I would expect that if poly was a such a bad thing that Japanese cartoons would push it like no tomorrow, for theirs is a twisted culture. The absence of poly in fiction is conspicuous indeed.

There are no romantic books (non sexual) about polygynous relationships. Actually, that's not quite true. I found one, but it was written very poorly by a guy who didn't understand how women think at all, and the first wife only appeared in the story to tell him she was bonking the neighbour and not interested in him anymore which left him open to marrying the other woman he'd knocked up but hadn't told wife #1 about... So, not polygyny.
There are sexual books that contain 2 men and one woman, I have stumbled across these by accident when searching for polygamy. Once again, there's no romantic non sexual books about this, in fact it only seems to be about sex.
I have so many ideas in my head for stories that I could write with biblical polygyny being a huge thread running through. And one day if I ever get enough time I may write one.

I don't think there is a difference. If one were to say that sex stories are not bad, then porn is not bad. In this case, the stigma of "porn" is so ingrained that some don't recognize it as being similar via different medium. A sex story is just a literary version of porn. The medium has changed but the content could very well be the same. At one time, even the Song(s) of Solomon were considered too juicy for Prime Time and there's all sorts of reference to boobies, fellatio, cunnilingus, erotic dancing in front of guests.....

This kind of illustrates the problem of the church's obsession with "porn". What all qualifies? By any objective standard a surprising amount of scripture could be considered sexually explicit and a whole bunch more would receive an NC-17 rating for violence and horror themes.

Do only pictures qualify? What about the illicit wrist and ankle pictures from Saudi Arabia? They definitely inspire lust.

That wasn't really the point of this thread though. This was more of a question of why the porn industry, that will produce stories of every despicable conduct under the sun won't touch a subject that many of their consumers (frustrated western men) would presumably enjoy?

Does this allude to some spiritual truth about polygyny? The answer I think is an unequivocal yes.

yeah, it's one of those opposites things. Polygynous stories are so rare or vilified that it must be good. That's a little tongue-in-cheek, but i really do agree with the observation/premise. ;)

I agree that a sex story is a form of pornography, if I can use a crude English definition

Pornography: printed or visual material containing the explicit description or display of sexual organs or activity, intended to stimulate erotic rather than aesthetic or emotional feelings.

But... without asking for a reference on these verses, are these passages intended to sexually excite the reader? Perhaps I'm just jaded and have seen too much, but I can't think of any biblical text dealing with sexual matters that does anything for my libido.
What's the saying? Your mileage may vary?

The truth is often frank and explicit, but pornography exaggerates and lies.

I'm backing off here. I probably shouldn't have gone as far as I did as I failed to realize this is a public thread and I'm not couth enough to reword it properly.

To stay on topic of this thread. I'll stick with what I inferred earlier. It is not surprising that we can easily find copious volumes of every form of literary erotica that portrays relationships specifically condemned by the Bible. The only non-exclusionary hetero relationship that is biblically approved (polygyny) is extremely rare or still tainted in some way to make it miss the mark. That is rather telling.

So, just to clarify, I am not advocating the usage of adults stories. I would readily say that I had a past in reading them, but it did not produce righteousness in my life.
Best reading remains the Bible.

The main idea behind this thread was as a reflection on the fact that of all the material out there, polygyny was notably absent, especially since people seem convinced that polygyny is the perverted ideal of sex-crazed nymphomaniacs. which, if that were the case, one should expect to see it being marketed and consumed by the people who fit that description.

I think we're all agreeing just from slightly different directions and/or verbiage. :)

I just had a thought.
Video porn is directed at men. I have not seen it, but do not tell me there is none with a man and two women, there must be plenty of that stuff, surely. It plays on men's ego, to have two women after him. It's also not about commitment, it's only about sex.
Written porn is directed at women. It's about relationships, falling in love, and commitment. It plays on women's egos, to have them have a guy completely focused on them, maybe even two guys that she has to choose between.
So you don't get written porn with a woman having to share a man, because it wouldn't sell. It's not a woman's 'fantasy'. And for men you don't get video porn about commitment, because it's not a man's 'fantasy'.
All spoken in general terms of course.

I'm gonna have to disagree with you, Zec. I too have... a friend.... who reads erotic literature but that audience can't hold a candle to the mound of videos even Atlas would break under. Or so i'm told.

My friend also agrees with the reasons FM2 listed above. *clears throat* Anyone got any water?

Dropping in to say that I write erotica, am completely against pornography (a woman's nakedness should only be seen by her husband), and yes polygyny is notably absent from secular erotica. I do recall one however where a man commits adultery with every woman in a harem. It was written in 1896 though. Interesting quote from a different story in the same book: "Our religion, which was the Greek, forbade a plurality of wives."

I just saw a book on Facebook. It's called Portals of Yahweh. Interesting, I thought. Must have something to do with God.
Here's the first part of the intro blurb "A gritty Sci-fi series of adventure, high jinks, and poly romances."
And so I got super excited, because here is poly in fiction.
So then I went to the Amazon page and read the reviews, people annoyed they're reading about sister wives. Ok, awesome!
But then I looked into the book and the author more. I can not find much about the author. But he never once mentions God anywhere on the internet at all, so I'm presuming he's not a Christian. The books don't say anything about God, and mostly have to do with aliens. The reviews also seem pretty bad.
I don't know why he's used the name Yahweh since it appears to have nothing to do with Him (unless it turns out aliens are god or something in the books, then that makes more sense, though is incredibly blasphemous), and it seems the writing and grammar probably isn't very good.
Maybe poly? Maybe worth reading?
I won't be buying it.
I'd rather get stuck back into writing my own poly story. One day I may even finish it, when my kids have left home lol.
