Numbers 12 encouragement

Numbers 12 would supply good evidence that polygyny is morally acceptable to God in at least one case (but not necessarily all cases.)

Assuming

1. Moses was not divorced from his first wife (this argument has problems considering God hates divorce, but in some narrow cases I believe it is ok to divorce and remarry, although which cases I am not exactly sure, so I try not to pursue marriage with divorced woman until I figure out these rules, except when I have brief moments of stupidity.)

2. Moses first wife did not die.

Can anyone show that assumption 1 and 2 are both false? That would help much in supporting polygyny in some cases.

Do you think his wife practiced the Jewish religion before marrying Moses or after? I guess there is no more proof for what religion she was, than if Moses first wife was dead as some in the Monogamy only position claim.

Aphesis,

You have no idea how encouraging your comments were to me. Your synopsis is exactly what I am facing personally right now. Thank you so much for following the Lord and posting this.

I also find it providential that your signature includes Ephesians 1:3. I'm teaching my children to memorize Ephesians 1 right now, and we're on verse 3! God is so very good to us to give us exactly what we need when we need it!

I really like the way you broke this passage down and also used some practical experience from your own life AP.

Good to see other dispensationalists on here.

you may not realize that a real man would much rather be struck with the leprosy than to have it happen to someone he loves (even if she is only his sister ;) )

".... "Do not go beyond what is written."....."

See 1 Corinthians 4:6 which I may be quoting out of context

dtt,
what is your point?

I think guessing why God punished Miriam with leprosy and not Aaron (if I have those facts correct) is going beyond what is written.

We can know Miriam was punished with leprosy but

1. does God actually say Aaron did not get leprosy (although it is a reasonable assumption he probably did not none the less does the text say Aaron did not get leprosy, if I found a second text saying Aaron got leprosy that seems to be historically accurate on a number of points, it MIGHT not contradict the books of Moses if Aaron also got leprosy. Although given what is presented to assume Aaron also got leprosy is laughable to me.)

2. does God say.... "this is why I did not punish Aaron with leprosy...."

So I think we should not spend to much time guessing why Aaron was not punished with leprosy because we could be wrong, and accidentally start creating heresies. Perhaps it would not be too serious a mistake at first, but it could lead to a methodology of reading the Bible that results in false teachings which could lead to sinful behavior which could lead to eternal damnation.

For example I was watching the history channel, and there was a show about "Christians" who believed Adolf Hitler was a prophet and combined teachings of Hitler with teachings "of Jesus." As you can see bad doctrine can lead to bad behavior. Now I know you were not suggesting such a thing but...... a proper understanding of hermeneutics and history would have revealed this group to be teaching false doctrine, but..... if we neglect proper methodologies of determining doctrine we neglect the intellectual method to refute such groups and neglect a way to prevent the next generation from being smart enough to avoid such groups.

Of course the limitation to what I am saying is that some people who join such groups do not care if it is logical, because they join on the basis of the evil desires of their heart.
