Hey all,

I wanted to let everyone know that I just purchased a small house on two city lots on the outskirts of a small town in Missouri called Higbee. I owe a great deal of thanks to a certain BF staff member for his assistance with that!

The house is a wooden structure, has two bedrooms, a bath, living room, kitchen, and storage.

Also located on the property is a two-bedroom mobile home.

Both have been closed up for about three years, as the elderly lady that lived there went into a nursing home, and just recently passed away.

But both the house and the mobile home are straight out of an episode of TLC's "Hoarders"

I closed on Tuesday this past week, and since then just out of the house I have hauled out twenty garbage bags of bank statements, magazines and newspapers. I have also delivered fifteen bags of clothes to goodwill. This is not counting numerous nick-nacks, decorations, etc that I am selling on consignment locally.

In the process of sorting through things just in the house, I have actually found cash (only $50), a ton of tools, including power tools, two Cabbage Patch dolls (still in the box), twenty Barbies, numerous old Mason jars, and about 300 books, including 25 Bibles. This is all from the house only.

The mobile home is literally PACKED with about 25 years of storage. I wasn't able to even get into the thing until I got keys on the house. It is like a time capsule in there. I have already found a bunch more power tools, vintage clothing, a couch, a bed, and my brother found BURIED under a pile of clothes in the back bedroom....a washer and dryer....no fooling. For whatever reason, these people collected old thermos bottles, most of which are still intact. Found about a hundred of them.

The lots were overgrown, and the previous residents didn't do a very good job at keeping things together. I have already cleared off about half the property, and have accumulated about a ton of scrap metal.

I am having the time of my life!

Anyway, I just wanted to let everyone know what was going on in my life. 2010 was 'The Year That Sucked' for me, but 2011 is shaping up to be a lot better. I am having a blast cleaning up the place and getting it ready to live in by June 1. I still have a lot of work to do, but I already have the power on. I also have the water on as well, but I had to shut it off because there is a leak under the house that I am getting fixed this week.

I want everyone to know how much I appreciate your prayers over the past year. I finally feel like I have my mojo back in life, and I owe a debt of gratitude to my brothers and sisters in BF who kept lifting me up before the Lord. Thank you.

I will keep you up to date on my progress personally, and also with the latest from The Compound. LOL.

I love you all,

Doc Burkhart

power tools!
there is no such thing as too many power tools :!: (unless they are sears, then the value is about a nickel more than what you paid for them)

congrats on the whole shebang :D

I think I may have viewed that house when I was looking for a place for my mom. If it's the one I'm thinking of, you certainly have your work cut out for you. Good luck and may God Bless you in your new adventure.

Do you know how much collectors will pay for those cabbage patch Dolls if they are quite old?????

Wow....

What a kick, Doc. Congratulations!

It sounds like a lot of work so do not try to do it overnight. Perhaps we will get to see it sometime.
