Thanks for sharing the utube link. I'm excited but bummed at the same time, because it said it was the final season. So is this it?

Yw. And I won't believe them anymore until they say this is the 'final final' season.

I'm sure with good ratings though maybe they'll keep going!

Guess I just don't get it....When I watched that show, it seemed to me that the women were miserable, always worrying about 'their day' or something to do with a schedule; They didn't seem happy to me at all. The man seemed aloof to everyone, just going from wife to wife. Not the sorta lifestyle I'm searching for at all (but maybe it's just me).

I agree with you, I don't think Big Love shines a pretty light on Polygamy at all. :|

I don't gain any wisdom from this show regarding polygamy; it's just entertainment like any other show. However, I wanted to know more about polygamy and watching the show led me to this site. I guess something good did come from watching the show. :D

I have watched only a few episodes and was enlightened about poly life. I guess it was the start to looking into pm. I however don't get into the voyeur aspect of watching someone else's life. I truly wish to avoid comparing ourselves among ourselves and justify my actions as being not as bad as "them" whoever they are. Can someone enlighten me?

I think Big Love helped put polygamy on the radar. I know when my wife first watched it 5 years ago or whenever it was a big eye opener for her. It is a flawed show in some ways in that it is trying to go in too many directions at once. I think most people would prefer to see more of Bill and his family. On the other hand there are not that many polygamy shows to watch so we have to take what we can get.

Entertainment generally doesn't shine a 'good light' on any subject matter it touches, its neither especially good nor especially bad for polygamy. I look forward to season 5, my wife likes to watch TV sometimes and its not so bad if its something we are both interested in, though we do kind of play 'spot the flaws' and 'how easily could that situation have been avoided' after each show.

It helps when watching any show to realize that the characters themselves are not wise, nor do they necessarily understand what they're doing or how things work. While the producer is fairly well studied his idea of polygamy is not nearly so deep as most of ours, and he wrote characters that themselves don't really understand its practical and historical elements.

I should note the husband isn't aloof, he's conflicted between realizing how capable his wives are and conforming to a cultural heritage where wives are not viewed as that able and he is given unmitigated authority. He's balancing two things he himself doesn't understand, so he overreacts in favour of control. Its borderline stereotypical but its pretty good for TV. The women are also not miserable, but they are overly conflicted even for TV characters, and perhaps not quite as well done.
