Great slogan, saw that slogan first on Facebook during your last presidential election, someone using it to hassle Mitt Romney. It's brilliant, I seriously think we could use it somewhere. Not as the main banner for the site though (even with a fancier picture!), the current slogan does a much better job of describing what we are about.

Your picture looks like a set of paper dolls cut out of a newspaper. Which gives me a great idea for a brochure. We could make a marriage brochure that looked like a man on one side and a woman on the other, but actually folded out to become one man and a number of women, just like a set of paper dolls. If designed right it could look really good, and be quite effective too as a "tract" because it would be a completely different shape to most brochures so would be likely to be picked up and read.

Could even say:
FAMILY
VALUES

But when folded out become
MORE FAMILY
MORE VALUES

Hmmmm.....

I've nothing against the drawing style, but from a PR perspective, a lone man flanked by women might do little to dispel the idea of "adult fun".

You know those stick-figure decals people use on the backs of their vehicles? They're usually placed in the lower-left corner of the back windows of minivans and SUVs, and arranged in this order, from left to right: man, woman, children (oldest to youngest), pets. For various reasons, I think a lineup of this sort, but with additional women, would work a little better than the proposed drawing.

  • familiar imagery with connotations of "family" (not "orgy")
  • lineup indicates headship and order
  • blends easily with monogamous arrangements, of which it is a subtle variation

Mystic,

It takes a while to get used to my sense of humor. I am in no way seriously considering this as a banner change. I just thought it was funny.

Blessings,

Doc

I got the humour btw Doc!

Mystic, those decals are pretty good. I don't use them because I don't see the point in having to constantly buy more to keep up with my growing family, but if I had a couple of wives I could make a good discussion-starting array on my car... I might consider it should that happen!

Well, I wasn't sure, but it gave me an opportunity to work out some thoughts about how polygamy is represented, so thanks for posting it. :)

Could be a good way of advertising as well. Husband, Wife, (Your Name Here), Kid, Kid, Kid, Kid, ..., Dog, Cat, Hamster, Goldfish, etc... ;)
That's a potentially big back window

Guy: "Why do you drive around towing a billboard?"
Poly: "Family pride." :D

hmmm
an excursion has a really big back window, but do we have to include the chickens?

yes yes....it is very small, but I think he did go there! I am not saying a word....not one.....zip...completely zip

Oh, yes, he did. But the bigger question is: Are the dogs named Stirfry1, Stirfry2, ...?

For Doc, maybe. Ask Mia.

I'm having trouble holding onto 1. Or maybe I just get to be too much trouble to handle alone ... (Ri-i-i-ight! )

But at least Freddy Teddy (my rather larger Teddy Bear and traveling companion) still loves me! :o  :? 8-)

Slept in the car in a rest area last night. Window down. Laid back in the car seat. Freddy Teddy sitting on my lap with his face and one paw out the window. Got quite a reaction from the rest area security guard. Will have to do that again! :D

I got a big ole van with a little window space left..... I like the idea of headship in the order, but have to wonder if going left to right with man, woman, woman, kid, kid, kid, kid (the goat type?) etc. would look like the second wife was under the first..... better to avoid the concubine issue on this thread though so I shall shut up.

But if you go man, woman, woman, woman, woman, woman, woman (rearranging the original picture), and that denotes an order of headship, what on earth does that mean? Husband, wife, concubine, slave, then what?!

And then what if a Hebrew speaker tries to read it from right to left instead of from left to right? Then the husband is the last in line!

You could denote headship by making it more like a family tree: Husband on the top row, wives on the second row, kids on the third row etc. But if the family got too large you'd then struggle to see out the back window. And our laws here are that you aren't allowed stickers to come in any further than 4" from the edge of the window, so you'd be liable to have the husband removed to make the car comply. Then the family would be headless.

Or if you have a crash and roll the car, anyone looking at it would think the children were in charge. Or the pets, if they were included. Which would explain why you rolled the car.

What can we do? My head hurts trying to understand all the possible implications of my choice of sticker order. Anything I could do is wrong!
:D
