My sweet daughter

I just wanted to share how helpful my daughter has been through this difficult ordeal. Every night for the past week she has made us dinner. Making dinner in our house is interesting because of the various dietary needs of each family member. Natalia and I eat completely different than the boys. They require carbs so that they don't have hypoglycemia in the morning. Natalia and I are Keto. Sometimes I feel guilty because my kiddos have had to take on a lot of responsibilities since very early on that their friends have yet to start. However, I recognize that this also gives them more freedom than their peers because they know how to take care of themselves and do not have to rely on someone else to do it. Two out of the three know CPR. All three know how to clean, load and shoot a gun. My older two know how to prepare meals, do laundry, clean bathrooms, administer medicine injections into themselves every night, iron clothes and pretty much every other skill an adult needs to survive. I have not been able to go grocery shopping because of taking care of Ephraim. Natalia took it upon herself to figure out what we were out of and placed an online order for groceries to be delivered. That's her latest skill she has had to learn out of necessity because I wasn't able to do it. It is amazing how much hardship grows a person. Now we just have to work on a few maturity issues and she will be ready to be a wife in about 3 years, if that's what she so desires. She won't have to wait until her late 20s to gain these skills, as it seems so common today. Honestly a lot of these skills they have had to just pick up out of emergency. They didn't learn them because I sat down to teach them. I don't think today's kids have enough hardships and it shows in their inability to handle life and stress.

Good job Momma!
I was just hearing from a mormon relative that some of the missionaries they send out fresh out of high school have had to come back home because they lack real world life skills. Some cannot do their laundry, cook, or even use a broom to sweep the floor.

Growing up doesn't happen magically overnight when the child goes to bed 17 and wakes up 18. It is learning skills, and responsibility.

Trouble now is people raise kids, instead of adults that happen to be in the child stage of life.

Your are sooo right on! You've done a fantastic job a mom. What a family! I'm so proud to hear this testimony--Wow!

I am not sure I can take much credit. It was our circumstances that forced them to have to take on responsibility. I would like to think I would have taught them these skills even if our circumstance was different, but I may have been like any other modern mom and not required they do anything.

Circumstances are what they are but you stepped up and taught them what they needed to know. Now you have children coming into adulthood knowing basic life skills that sadly most don't. Don't feel guilty ever that you had the ability and opportunity to teach them anything. There are so many parents who don't teach their children anything.

We receive complements regularly about how hard of workers or kids are and how helpful and how smart and wow! They know how to do all that! We feel good knowing we've taught them so much that will help them through life.

You're doing an awesome and amazing job! God has made circumstances that are helping you to know how to prepare them for the lives they will lead and you're listening! It doesn't matter what could've been it's how it is that matters.
