Military?

I don’t know if this has been brought up before or even what the Bible says about it. Late night thoughts is all... opinions on women joining the military...?

There are many good women in the military, but I feel that is a societal corruption that takes them out of the pattern that our Creator intended.

I worked overseas for nine years in Iraq and Afghanistan. The ratio of women to men were much less than the men. As in all humans, some were good at their job and some were mediocre,

This a personal opinion. If a woman could be placed in a paper pushing position, whether officer or enlisted, high level or low level jobs, technical or non-technical, I had no problem with that.

In combat is where I would like to see the line drawn. Very few women were capable of picking up a 200 pound man and carrying him to safety (in the event of an attack) Going to the clinic and seeing a woman in a bed, just after an IED went off, seeing her leg in a plastic bag beside her is, in my humble opinion, wrong for us to have placed a woman in that position.

It’s tough to see something similar happen to the guys, but it was war. Tough luck to the guys. No sympathy to the guys, but empathy to the guys.

I’d rather not see women in the military unless they are guaranteed not to be placed in harms way.

Also, a woman should be placing herself under the headship of a husband. But military service demands her to place herself under the headship of another authority. This is quite different to just serving a normal employer, as an employer can only command within the constraints of the job. But a military authority can send you anywhere in the world, at any time, and demand your obedience in a much wider range of matters, even to death. So it is highly questionable from a perspective of biblical order.

On a more general note, I'll just add briefly that this particular point in history / global affairs is a time where your sacrifice, if you were to join the military of any nation and suffer for it, could well be for a cause that was not worth suffering or dying for. Just put a lot of investigation into where you'd be likely to serve, who you'd be fighting and what true underlying cause you'd be serving (behind the propaganda) before offering your body and life to any authority for their use as they please. Much of what is on the news today is deliberately designed to deceive. Your life is your most valuable asset and belongs to a King already who requires it be used for His service. Therefore be very careful who you place in authority over it and be absolutely certain you know their true allegiances and goals (today), and know these are aligned with the King's goals.
I'll leave it at that.

It creates a unique form of arrested development in young women. I could give examples of young women I know but basically it warps their outlook and even the best always seem to have a slight snottiness towards men thinking they are now physically equal which they are not. Some even look down on non military men and think they are really something special even though it was through lowering the standards that they were allowed in. Nope. Young women need to stay clear and focus on home economics and becoming wives not being gi jane.

Were you called while a slave? Do not worry about it; but if you are able also to become free, rather do that. For he who was called in the Lord while a slave, is the Lord’s freedman; likewise he who was called while free, is Christ’s slave. You were bought with a price; do not become slaves of men. Brethren, each one is to remain with God in that condition in which he was called.

When you join the military, you're essentially signing your life over. It is akin to slavery. Paul's advice above in 1 Cor 7 applies here; if you're not already in the military, don't join.

Worse yet, it isn't 1776 anymore. You'll essentially be giving your life for the beast system.

Now that doesn't mean you can/should leave if you are in the service (before your time is up that is). As Paul said, remain in the condition you are in. Christ also echo'd that implicitly when soldiers asked Him what they must do...

Some soldiers were questioning him, saying, “And what about us, what shall we do?” And he said to them, “Do not take money from anyone by force, or accuse anyone falsely, and be content with your wages.”

Now, none of those answers are sex specific. I don't recommend anyone join today's military. But if someone is eager to fight and die, well, keep your powder dry, things are going to get interesting the next decade or so.

Now as to women specifically...

You'll also notice a distinct lack of women in the military in all scripture. Biblically, war isn't a woman's role in life. These two verses pretty much preclude military service by women...

A woman shall not wear man's clothing, nor shall a man put on a woman's clothing; for whoever does these things is an abomination to the LORD your God.

Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good, so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored.

I'll also note that it is an awful temptation for women. It is hard on families and women in the military are notorious for their marital unfaithfulness. Historically women never served in the military, but did 'partake' so to speak as camp followers. I've no personal experience but have heard from a number of military men that women in the military essentially serve the same function today.

I was told by a friend who served in the navy they had a saying, "join the Navy and ride the waves". The "waves" of course meaning the women who served.

I’ve always thought about joining the navy I’ve just never done it, mainly Bc I’m over the weight limit lol.

Joining the military is like writing a blank check payable with upto and including your life.

You don’t have much of a choice once you sign up. If you don’t agree with what there about to fight for or sending you off todo then your screwed.

It’s hard for women to be family oriented when there gone for months at a time.

Hmm.

Well I'd encourage you the fix the weight part. Your finance and elder self will thank you. Diabetes isn't fun.

That I am working on as I found out a few years ago if I didn’t lose weight soon, I would be diabetic, I am already borderline. I’m proud to say I am down 15lbs or so. I mostly cut out soda and fast food. I walk about 10,000+ steps a day at minimum 5days a week.

I am against it. One of the main reasons why I got out was that I was in the Navy and they were starting to put women on ships.

It is a hard environment when you go to sea for months at a time and you can barely remember what your wife looks like without taking another glance at her picture (at least in my day way before they could Skype or the internet). It is a bareable if you are in an all male environment. Most people do not know what it is like. It is hard to describe, but basically we just worked and there was a minimum of distraction. Putting women in an envirnment like that is like pouring gasoline on a fire.

When we had midshipmen training cruises and they put college women on the ship the whole character of the ship changed overnight. All of sudden our ship of war was the loveboat. College girls tanning themselves in bikinis on the deck. A female senior assigned to me personally as a running mate so I can mentor her. In today's feminist environment to have a girl call you sir all day and have to do whatever you order (as long as it is a legal order). Power and authority between the sexes seemed very sexual.

I vote no. Not good, at least not good for me.

I mostly cut out soda and fast food.

That will make a big difference, you could easily loose 30 just from quitting those. And I've known several people to eliminate the need for insulin just from quitting fast food. But after a month or two the losses will stop and you'll have to start putting work in. Exercise, counting calories, and the like. Walking is good if you hadn't done much previously, good for the heart if you keep the heartrate up. But it's rather efficient so it is limited in its helpfulness in loosing weight, toning, or getting stronger.
