Men of Issachar

Many here on Biblical Families are no doubt aware that the "men of Issachar" are one of perhaps only two examples cited specifically in Scripture of polygynists who were not individual men*. (I Chron. 7:4) They had "many wives".

But that is not their only distinction, for in I Chronicles 12:32, we are also told that the men of Issachar had "understanding of the times", and knew what should be done.

May that truly be said of us as well.

With that in mind, I offer the following information to that end**. Forewarned is forearmed, and we are directed to build our houses upon the Rock, because prudent men "foresees evil". (Prov. 22:3))

As many here recall, I find often Jim Willie's analysis to be compelling --
not only is his thinking consistent with my own, obviously, but it is augmented by historically accurate insight and interesting inside information and experience.

In particular, Willie notes the following: (emphasis added)
The blind, the deficient, and the compromised fail to fully appreciate and detect the meaning of the Dubai debt default or the Iceland financial failure. They actually believe these busts have been dealt with by the very strength of the capitalist system. These default failures signify a continuation of the credit market crisis that never went away. Instead, accounting fraud was legalized. Instead, bloated bank toxic balance sheets were permitted. Instead, sovereign debt finance by monetary expansion was endorsed, i.e. monetization. Instead, stock equity sales to the nitwits incapable of reading balance sheets was widespread. Instead, broader statistical gimmickry of economic data was installed. Not a single meaningful reform has taken place on US soil, which guarantees the continuation of the credit crisis is assured. No substantial reduction of US home loan balance sheets. No return of US manufacturing. No liquidation of dead US banks. No removal of Goldman Sachs from control of the USDept Treasury. No disclosure of US Federal Reserve disbursements of over $1 trillion. No steps to restore the Glass Steagall Act to create firewalls between the financial sectors. No effort to prosecute for $trillion bond fraud. No initiative to bring to light the deep criminal lace to Fannie Mae and AIG, now protected under USGovt aegis. No attempt to rein in military spending and endless wars. No movement to create a monetary system with a currency other than the current debt denominated $20 bill coupons. Instead, with much greater force, enthusiasm, and recklessness, the financial system hurtled deeper into the Weimar chambers of commerce. Worse, most steps simply apply greater doses of precisely what caused the problems with debt overload and excessive monetary expansion. Worse doubly, most reforms grant even more power to those responsible for the breakdowns and fraud perpetration. The Untied States is being recognized internationally as a rogue nation moving headlong toward communism, run by powerful syndicates, whose most prominent foreign policy is explained by military hardware.

He goes on to identify a number of specific "game changing" events, any of which would represent potential significant elements of a major paradigm shift on the world stage, all of which are to some degree or another interrelated, and at LEAST one of which is almost certain to occur within this next year.

They include such things as a Greek debt default (very likely), breakdown of the Mexican state (also rated as very likely), failure of the London Metals Exchange (again very likely), a credit crisis relapse of the US banking system (which he rates as likely, and I consider to be even more so), and significant fallout from the Fannie Mae/GSE "criminal fraud coverup", increasing the risk associated with US Treasury Debt.

Check it out for yourself, and be watchful. Our Creator has given us warnings about the things which are to come so that we are not caught unaware. The most-repeated command in the entire Bible is to "fear not". It is far easier to do that when we walk in the light.

Blessings,
Mark

Since this was a thread intended to discuss the current economic meltdown from a Biblical perspective, the extraneous comments about preterism have been deleted.

There have been Depressions before, and economies which have risen and fallen. The Bible has always had much to say about how men do, and should, deal with one another in commerce and contract.

Whether or not one believes in an "end times" scenario yet to come, the consequences which are now in progress, and which follow from the seeds which have been sown, are very real.

we are with you, mark
just don't have anything to add

Seconding what Steve wrote, but going to add something anyway.

Most of us live dependant for day to day life -- shelter, heat, water and food, -- upon "the system" in cities and even in small towns.

What happens if that breaks? If power goes out for an EXTENDED period of time?

Just before Y2K< I was asked about this in Papua New Guinea (PNG) while on a short term mission trip. I turned the question around asking what they'd do? Answer: Grab a few coconuts and go walk back into the bush to their family's plantations. So, no big worry WHAT Y2K brang, brung, bringed, brought?

How about us, today? In Ft Lauderdale, or Orlando, or Dallas, or Chicago? How about in the little town of Toccoa, GA? City power, city water, helpful but inadequate fireplace, and food still comes from the supermarket.

Yesterday, I listened to a bit of a speech on a DVD by a US Representative from Maryland, name escapes me at the moment, who said that it is the Patriotic thing to do to establish a country home where you can live "off the grid", self sufficient in heat, water, and (so far as possible) food. That way, when (not 'if') everything goes gunnybags, you can be part of the solution, not part of the problem.

The problem, of course, will be providing for the current vast majority of the population who have no place to go, nothing safe to eat or drink, and are cold. Anyone who has made adequate provision for themselves and their family will NOT become a public burden, and can more-or-less sit back and ride it out. Maybe even take in and help someone else.

Stuff to think about!

Thanks.

Mark I wanted to let you know I really like it when you pass on scriptures to go along with your explanation on a post. I feel this is how we really learn and become more involved in the word. It really helps me and the more about gods word I know the better my life is. I enjoy when everyone is going back and forth with the scriptures. We learn so much from each other. I am sure I will learn more by reading the men of Issachar.
