Holiday traditions!

We do a lot of the same things. I always have to watch "It's A Wonderful Life" on Christmas Eve and "Little Women" on Christmas Day. I usually do a lot of baking and my bourbon pecan pie has become a Christmas tradition; although, I make pumpkin pie, too. We also do some pranks....My mother put a can of beef stew in my stocking last year and many years ago, I put a bottle of Gin in her's. :D This year, my church is having a huge dinner on Christmas Eve, with a service afterward, so I am really looking forward to that. :)

I still live with my parents and we do pretty much the typical. We open one gift on Christmas Eve and open the rest on the next day. My Brother and his children are the ones who get the most of gifts. My father enjoys to listen to Christmas and other holiday songs. My mother loves to cook and I love to relax! :p I have to admit I never really like shopping for Christmas. I don't see why buying an item is going to make the family closer. I guess it's the "thought" that counts. Since learning more about my Latin American and Caribbean heritage I would love to do start celebrating Christmas like the rest of Hispanics around the world. A lot the food is spicy. "haha".

I used to do christmas, but I don't believe in it anymore. Although I'm still planning on owning a copy of "A Christmas Story". Doesn't matter whether you believe in christmas or not, that movie is still just HILARIOUS!! I'm now trying to learn and implement as many of the Scriptural Holy Days/Holidays as I can, but without a local congregation it's making progress slow going.

I am like the DoM ^^^ I don't celebrate Christmas but I lurve me a Christmas Movie....they are the best!!!!

I went through a period of time when I thought that maybe I did not want to celebrate Christmas. The commercialism and the way that our country has secularized the holiday these days is gruesome. I decided not to let the ugliness of the holiday take away from the true reason that we celebrate the holiday though.

I remind my kids that the reason that we are celebrating Christmas is to honor the birth of Yeshua. We exchange gifts in remembrance of His gift to us. We go to Christmas Eve service... some years we go to Christmas Eve service at a non-denominational church, a sing along service at the Baptist church in which all of the churches gather together, and then we go to Midnight Mass at the little local Catholic church! I love the Christmas carols and the fellowship with the whole church community! There is always lots of fudge and cookies and cherry Koolaid! On Christmas Eve if there is somebody's rig at the local bar that I recognize (which there are usually a few!), I will go into the bar and buy my friends a beer and wish them a Merry Christmas and make sure that they have place to go for the holiday! I only stay a few minutes though because I have to be back home to sing the kids to bed with "Santa Clause is Coming to Town" and then wait up to stuff stockings and place Santa gifts under the tree.

Santa comes to our house because I would have some really disappointed children if he didn't. I remind my kids of the true story of Saint Nicholas. They know that Santa is not a real person! He is lumped into the same category as the tooth fairy (who still comes to our house too). We have fun, we enjoy a huge family meal together with my entire family, we sit around and play games and tell stories. We love each other and laugh! The Christmas holiday is celebrated in remembrance of the birth of our savior, in a spirit of love for family and friends... and fun! Good old fashioned fun and fellowship is good for the soul!

So, even if you don't celebrate the holiday yourselves, a nice hug and a "Happy holidays!" to us who do is a gesture of kindness that we all appreciate! :D In return, when you are out in tree branch tents celebrating Sukkot, I will bring you another blanket and share in the remembrance of the the Jews living in tents in the desert with you... after all, holidays are to gather together and remember and appreciate all that our wonderful God has done for us!

There are some links on the other thread about Jewish holidays that I will follow and read through because I am fascinated with the remembrance of those days too! By learning the customs of the Jewish holidays we can appreciate and gain an even deeper understanding of our Father's plan of redemption for us all!

Thanks everyone! You are so unique and wonderful!

I had the most amazing holiday of my life. Not just Christmas but holiday overall. It was the first holiday I had with no anger, stress, guilt or any other unpleasant emotion.

My daughter (of my heart not birth), her husband and their children came. I made a fabulous dinner (not bragging, but I was amazed at how wonderful it all was) of rib roast, stuffing, mashed potatoes and two kinds of pie. Everyone had plenty to eat and we all thoroughly enjoyed each other.

Then we had a few games of cards with a lot of laughter thrown in. What an amazing afternoon and evening. It was so wonderful, peaceful and loving that I am about convinced I can have that anytime I want it.

God is so good. He has provided for me in so many ways this year.
