I know most of you have it all together and don't need any parenting help, but...

"Parenting by the Book" - the "Book" being the Bible, of course.
http://www.amazon.com/Parenting-Book-Biblical-Wisdom-Raising/dp/1416544844/

This book by John Rosemond is FANTASTIC. It's funny, we used to read his parenting column in the newspaper years ago, and say "wow, that's great advice, not modern psycho-babble - he must be a Christian". Well, in fact, he didn't come to a real relationship with Jesus, and repent totally of his secular-humanism past until fairly recently. This book pulls no punches - totally devastating the change that happened in American parenting in the 60s and 70s.

It's not primarily about "do this" advice, it's in large measure about principles, and why the Biblical way works, and the new American way doesn't.
Check out the reviews - all 5 stars, or 1 star: from those who hate the Bible as the standard for parenting.

If your kids sometimes rule the house (or you know a house where they do) this is a great book to start with (or to send anonymously!)

Brother Nathan,
Never really read any books about raising kids other than the scriptures. Rose and I married very young so we just went by how we each were raised. I never was afraid to spank my kids or punish them in a manner that I felt was needed. I tried to do things with them, even now that they are all grown, when I was home from the Gulf. I tried to support them in their decisions, right or wrong, as a means of them learning and growing. Most importantly I tried to make sure they know about the Lord.

Mom Has A Favorite

First rule of parenting: don't play favorites with the kids.

"Yeah, I did it....so what?"

(Just a note: why does this little girl seem to remind me of Lissa...?) :?:

Doc,
I am speechless!

I don't even know how to respond to that. Please tell me you don't think I am like that. Remember my moniker is SWEET Lissa.

Randy, are you going to let him get away with that?

Oh Doc, I am deeply hurt.

Sweet Lissa

LOL

Thank you. I think I will take that as a compliment. I have been told that I have an adventurous spirit. Maybe that is what you mean when you think you mean mischevious.

Hey, if you guys think I am lovable and mischevious, who am I to question you.

But, I want you all to know that while I love candles, I totally fear fire.

Sweet Lissa

She is lovable and full of adventure - that is a fact! lol

Hey Doc,
You got a point there in your picture...they do look alike.......I thought I saw Lissa playing with matches at the Dallas retreat

Love ya Lissa :D
