Give Polygamy to the sinners

What if we argued to give Polygyny to the sinners as a disincentive against institutions such as human trafficking.

Let alone arguing it as Biblically acceptable for Christians, just convince society that allowing men to seek out consenting "harem" females is at least a more desirable alternative to guys using force on women. Convince them that opening up free market access to females would gut the financial motive for human traffickers, and greatly reduce the pressure some men feel to use criminal means upon other humans to satisfy their inclinations.

Then, while society comes to accept what it sees as the "lesser of two evils", the institution becomes much more accepted in mainstream culture as normal.... which, one could hope, would lead to many Christians not wanting to "die on that hill" especially after the battle has already been lost.

Human trafficking isn't something being used broadly by men to get wives. Legalizing prostitution would have a greater affect on that. Besides that, the people obsessed over the issue of "guys using force on women" are neither prone to logic nor amiable to arguments from Christian polygamists.

A more likely strategy is to dovetail with Isaiah 4:1 and convince the single women that by teaming up they'll have a better shot at securing a man's commitment. A lot of men are checking out of the marriage market and there are going to be a lot of desperate women in the coming years.

I saw a video recently by two such. Their only solution was: be patient and don't settle. As if doubling down on the standard advice would make a difference. Completely clueless.

Indeed, but if it were marketed to the ignorant, but compassionate in the Church as a more merciful alternative... those desperate women would then have open options. Once the women realize they have options, and don't have to settle, it may encourage the men to up their game and be more competitive, by necessity.

encourage the men to up their game and be more competitive

More competitive in what way?

That doesn't really figure into the problems caused by men refusing to participate and women having unrealistic expectations.

Give polygamy to them? How generous of you.

I can see going to my local hangout for thugs and outlaws and telling them they're allowed to have more than one woman. I'm sure the idea never occurred to them. They'll be overjoyed.

Oh, wait, we're talking about the "ignorant but compassionate of the church"? I didn't know those were the same people.

How do “we” give it to them?
Who do we argue with?
We are not standing in their way.

The memes thread is ----> that way....

Convince Church types that since sinners will be sinners anyway... might as well stop opposing an institution that would be better than a lot of the other means people try to employ to get access to females.

No, sinners aren't the ones that need convincing, but what if we convinced the Church to vote pro-poly for the sake of creating an alternative to other ways worldly people go about things...

Then, in terms of men having to step up their game: when it begins to catch on culturally, the men who are good husbands and are willing to open their homes to women who want that and are going to offer love, stability, etc., then those men who are counting on the "all the good men are taken" myth to go from woman to woman will find their pool of candidates to be shrinking. The basic economics of quality will come into play as the women start latching to higher quality men. The other men will then have to choose whether to be more competitive, or...

Speaking in broad generalities, of course.

The problem is that poly is not an alternate method of getting access to females.
In fact, it removes more females from the playing field giving marginal men even less access.

I am all for selling the idea of poly to the churches, but “because sinners will sin” doesn’t seem like a good argument to me.

But what he's saying, I think, is that it will dry up the large pool of women who are vulnerable to things like trafficking and sex work. The argument you make to the churches, and again this is my understanding of what he's saying, is to point out that these people are all living in a state of sin anyway, adding polygamy won't change their salvation status in the least but may improve their quality of life and starve out some of these other social ills by depriving them of women to exploit.

I am all for drying up the pool of women available for sex work. Go for it.

I'm not sure if this is what you're getting at or not, but I've had a similar thought percolating. I call it the "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" rejoiner to the culture war.

The church lost the culture war. Completely. What the sexual revolution promised to men in part was sex with multiple women; albeit in a sinful form. If the church embraces polygamy, they can offer to men a sanctified method for scratching that itch. An itch, by the way, God coded into men's biology.

As it stands, the church has lost the culture war and all they have to counter the sexual revolution is the promise of occasional frigid duty sex. Needless to say that hasn't sold well.
