For those who claim liking pretty woman is wrong

Why would it be shallow to like a woman because she is pretty but considered acceptable to like a woman because she is smart?

Isn't it just as shallow to lust after her brain? There are some physiological components to intelligence.

Couldn't there be smart woman that are compulsive liars and ethically repugnant even though you might at first be attracted to their outward intelligence.

Couldn't there be a woman who is outwardly pretty in terms of being smart but inwardly ugly in terms of being a compulsive liar for example.

Isn't smarts also just part of outward beauty and not looks only?

I think both are equally shallow. Looks change with age, and senility robs many of their minds. True Christian character and a heart for the Lord should only get better with age, no matter the physical or intellectual challenges of life. Of course, the young men among us may find it harder, as they have no proven character to examine in the younger ladies, but at least a record of childhood to young adulthood showing signs of genuine Christian conversion and walking in the spirit.

You don't fall in love with a person's looks or mind - you fall in love with the *person*. (Ideally, anyways.) Looks fade and change all the time and couldn't be farther from defining a person. Intellect, however, comes closer to defining someone. Hence the emphasis on mental over physical.

Now, you can love everything about someone - mind, body, and soul - that's a wonderful thing.

You "fall" into lust, addiction, compulsion etc.

Love is a difficult command to obey and not something if you study it that anyone would "fall" into being the is is contrary to our sinful nature.

we had a pastor who used the word "limerance" to describe the feeling that is normally called falling in love. placed between lust and love, it is something which you fall into. down the road "life happens" and suddenly love is serious business. like jonathan pointed out, commanded even.

as far as the original question, who are these mythical people who would suggest that liking a pretty woman is wrong?
if their opinion becomes too pervasive I may be compelled to set up a ministry solely to rescue the poor, neglected creatures! ;) :D
