Hi everyone,

I would like to know your opinion about tubal ligation?

Is it a sin or not?

I wouldn't consider it a sin (there isn't an explicit law against it), but it is a drastic step that does go against the basic principles God has given us. You are deciding to make it impossible for you to ever "go forth and multiply", the first instruction to mankind. If there is a medical necessity, do it, it's not a sin. But just choosing it willingly is choosing to do the opposite of God's stated will. There may be better options that should be considered instead.

Are you considering this yourself? Would you mind discussing why?

Tubal ligation is when a surgeon “ties” the fallopian tubes to prevent pregnancy. It is still possible to become pregnant if, over time, the tubes grow back. However, this is rare.
The surgery involves cutting and tying off the fallopian tubes to prevent an egg from entering the uterus.

Undergoing tubal ligation increases the risk of ectopic pregnancy. Read on to learn more about symptoms of ectopic pregnancy, other complications, and the chances of becoming pregnant after the procedure.

At the very least it is against the design of God. By doing it you'd seek to cancel out its natural use.

Answering your question would likely answer another similarly hard question. Is it sin to purposely spill or waste seed(sperm)? To not dispense it in its proper location. You need your answer I assume for practical reasons, but the answer to these two questions are likely intimately connected.

I do find it interesting that there are entire porn categories dedicated to wasting seed outside of a woman's body. How pro masturbation the world and scientific communities are. I'm always cautious of what the world promotes(knowing that the enemy is always pushing society in a direction). Then there's the Onan conundrum.

It seems at first glance that the ancient understanding was to take advantage of the reproductive system to its fullest extent, not to hold out, or to try to determine how you want things to play out. But to put the seed in its ground, and seek God's providence for growth and conception, by faith. With all this being said, it would be conjecture for me to say that either behavior is sin. It is a silent area, with Onan's occurrence coming closest to saying something very substantial.

I guess our questions ultimately are seeking to know the value of these two things, to God. How much does He value the tubes and seed?

Sometimes there is a perceived need to limit the genetic issues that can arise. For instance, my wife's Dr is going in for "prophylactic mastectomy". I assume that she has genetic markers for breast cancer. That's a pretty radical procedure just to "play it safe". But I get it- people get afraid of the what if's in life. However as a rule, we as God's children should earnestly desire God's blessing. Most christians will say "OK God, that's enough of your blessing" (obviously meaning children) and I have to shake my head (smh). But hey, it's not my decision to live with. Both my wives have had miscarriages and that is sad but it is not the rule so the fear of that does sometimes give us pause in our rationale. I am however dismayed when God's children accept the thought processes of the world instead of God's word. Thinking like the world will yield the worlds results. do we really wonder why God followers are no different from non-god followers?
Another way to look at it- does the farmer buy a field in order to NOT till, sow, and reap? It is the universal expectation. Or for that matter to run the tractor over the field for entertainment? usually not. God does not say "sex is bad" but instead has huge parameters that we work in to keep it very good. It should be God that closes the womb not Trojan. -M

I do not believe it is sin. The man is still putting his seed in his woman, it just can't go anywhere. That doesn't mean I recommend it, or believe it is a good idea. It's a surgery. A question to consider is should a woman also not have a hysterectomy or other surgeries on her female parts that might render her sterile? These and other surgeries to both men and women also alter reproduction, so you could ask the same question of several other surgeries.

But as I said, I don't recommend it. You may have great regret. My wife had a tubal ligation 23 years ago after the birth of our 3rd child. We were young at the time and believed we did not want more than 3 children. We've regretted it many times, and if we could go back in time, would not have done so. However, it's too late and what's done is done.

Is it a sin to gouge out your eye or cut off your hand? Is it a sin to donate a kidney? Is it a sin to disobey your husband?

Do his will and let your conscience be clear because you are free from guilt, perceived or real, if you follow his word. This is the blessing of being under his authority. If he has not told you to get the tubal, and you want one, then ask him about it, not us. We don't get to override his will for you. 1 Cor 14:35

Also that Joseph waited until after the birth of Christ to 'know' his wife. I assume he thought it would have been a waste to put his seed in a woman already with child, or that he didn't want his seed to share space with the Father's begotten. But those are just my assumptions.
The Christ Child was to be born of a virgin. That means not sex to after He was born. :)

Wow! Great illustration considering so much relationship law exactly parallels agricultural law in the Torah!

True, but many people buy horses for the sheer pleasure of going for a ride now and again.
