Since it appears that the question has not been answered yet I will attempt to answer it with a simple definition:
"hijacking a thread" is taking it off topic to the point that the initial discussion is killed. For a topic to meander a little into the areas of related items is probably all but impossible to avoid, but at least the opportunity to redirect the topic back to its original subject material exists.
What is the most disappointing is to see someone such as yourself telling others that all they have to do is warn or ask others not to take things off topic in their original post, and then see you participate in taking a topic off topic where the individual posting the topic specifically asked people not to do so.
I am simply a participant here, but I can tell you that what has been going on recently is detrimental to this forum and it is getting worse and worse every day. I hope that those with actual management skills will help those with only titles understand the importance of what I am trying to express.

I am so uncomfurtable by this. What is the bee in your bonette? I must express my nervious feeling as writting this, and I alowing the Elphant in your room come rampaging threw the forum. But I think you are upset spacificaly about something, and perhaps for the rest of us to stop gigling and making light, we need to hear what your spacificaly refuring to. And as a very sensitive person with no authority here am not in a possition to discusse with you. Perhaps better placed in a PM?

I was trying to beat around the bush a little...but I will make it more clear..."The Duke" (Todd I believe) instructed me that if I didn't want any of my topics to be hijacked I should tell people to stay on topic in my posts (apparently he feels that people are unable to restrain themselves and a disclaimer is required to post a topic here and have it continue to be a related discussion). While instructing me so he was a participant in another topic doing exactly that...taking a topic off topic where the person that originally posted the topic specifically asked people NOT to do that. He should understand that as one of the individuals in a position of authority at this site that he needs to be careful and stand out as an example...I wanted to shout HYPOCRITE in his face but managed to contained myself...I guess maybe I just shouldn't care anymore and let things continue to degrade as it seems that it is really a waste of my time.

You can get a hosting server for about $10-$14 a month, a domain name for about $10 a year, and the PHPBB software is free. So for about $150 a year you too can host your own site with your own forum and do things the way you want to do them by complaining all the time. I've seen two guys try your approach in the past and they're .............well.............either non-existent or three posts a month. The fact is that you just want to complain. There doesn't have to be a reason. You'll find one.

Actually it seems to just get sadder and sadder...if you think your hypocrisy is funny then you are simply deceived. I noticed that rather than admitting your error and hypocrisy you invite me to leave and start my own forum because if I don't like it I should leave it. That's a good example to set (if you are a 6th grader - take your ball and go play somewhere else).

Exaggeration (simply a form of lying) is also very unbecoming of someone who is supposedly in a position of responsibility. My complaints have only been recently and have been for very good reasons... if I didn't care about the mission of this forum and its supporting organization I would have been gone a long time ago.

That is a blatant lie, something I would hope was beneath you but apparently is the best way you can think of to deflect the honest and true criticism of you that I laid out.

If I was to believe that argument I would have to say that any of us wanting to change the bigamy and polygamy laws were idiots...I can hear you cheering from the monogamy crowd now: "This is the way things are, marriage is between one man and one woman only, and you're just going to have to learn to deal with it. You can't always have things your way."
You seem to think I am the one and only individual that gets frustrated when a topic gets hijacked. Maybe I am the only one staunchly opposing it, but I am hardly alone. If you are truly that naive then I am wasting my time trying to explain it to you. Hopefully others will understand and try to minimize the problems being caused (like limiting off topic posts to one or two...or giving the individual that posted the topic the ability to delete posts that detract from the discussion), obviously you simply don't care (except perhaps about a bruised ego). At least Cecil started his own bumbleberry web site...maybe you could start your own "We want to start discussions but then randomly talk about anything unrelated to the topic at hand and sometimes it is even funny" web site on the side so that visitors to this site will find coherent and informative discussions about topics they are interested in. You just don't get it do you? It isn't hurting me...I might be the one making all the noise about it but it is hurting the credibility of this forum and the organization behind it.

I love to play...my first wife complains that she doesn't have a husband just one old kid and a bunch of young kids...I have two cats and a dog...I play with them too...my favorite way to play with adults is to phrase things so that they have a double meaning and see how the other person or people interpret it...I like to make people think and usually smile when I say something to make them wonder why I'm smiling and what I'm smiling about...you saw my picture avatar...that is the way I look most of the time. I too had a little fun as you did even though I was trying to keep it serious. I have also been chatting with some individuals on line and having a great time with them.
But there is a time and a place to put that away, and considering that the general public (that thinks we are weirdos to start with) will read some of these threads and see the bizarre tangents they go on only confirms their beliefs about us. I have said numerous times that if you want to do that do it on the private threads...I have no problem with that. Even the Silly topic was fine with me because that was its obvious purpose. But when there is a legitimate topic and a good discussion going it needs to stay that way...not only for the visitors, but for the rest of us so that it gives us the opportunity to examine our beliefs and question them or possibly learn something. I am a perpetual student and love to learn (I'm glad Dr. Allen does all the reading I don't have time to do). When a topic is hijacked it is also taking the opportunity for me to continue to read and learn from others. It is nothing less than selfishness on the part of individuals doing it, even if they think they are just being funny...they are actually being destructive to the topic. I have seen this very thing happen on other web sites (as you mentioned) and it detracts from the potential of the message being put forth. I just realized that in a way it is probably a tool used by Satan to thwart the continued discussion of a topic. But I'm glad that a few can have a good time at the expense of the rest...at least something good is accomplished.

this is not a situation where one has the floor and filibusters others from making posts. they have NO way to stop them.
no thread is more than ONE post away from the original topic, no matter how far it wanders.
every thread runs out of steam at some point. i enjoy a thoughtful, intelligent post as much as the next guy and enjoy some humour while waiting for the next flash of brilliance. many times i wait in vain. the humour cannot prevent an intelligent post, it just may appear that way when a thread dies for lack of another good post.
and in reality, each new post keeps returning the thread to the top of the list, keeping it in view for further discussion.

I was born and raised in America and lived there up until a couple of months ago.

So when a person posts a topic they should be able to expect others to show the courtesy of participating in a manner constructive to the topic, and have the freedom to express disappointment when some behave in an immature manner and take the topic off in a direction that causes others to quit participating in the discussion. I agree!

The way things are and the mission of the organization are two completely different things. Kind of like the monogamy folks saying that polygamy is due to the hardness of mens hearts like divorce (again two unrelated things). While the mission may not have changed that does not mean that the way things are is the way they were intended to be. I would like to read the section of the charter where it states that Biblical Families will promote a forum and the goal is to cultivate a small group of regulars to take over topics at random when they feel the need for some entertainment.

Again you insinuate that it is me that should leave...apparently so that you and yours can freely hijack topics without anyone standing up to you. I am not playing in your back yard and will stay or leave as I decide to. I have stated numerous times that my complaint is when people make numerous comments and it kills an active topic. I doubt you can find an instance where I was concerned when someone made an unnecessary comment or said something funny, as long as the topic of the thread continued. If you can find that then I am the hypocrite, if not then you might be the one that needs to reconsider things. That is hardly an example of what I spoke of. That is a topic where an individual clearly stated that he did not want any discussions to happen and his wishes were completely ignored. If you can't see what happened there you are blind. Dr. Allen HAD to re-post his topic in an attempt to get it back ON TOPIC because it had been hijacked.
