Is anyone here familiar with the website 4thefamily.us? It seems to be a mostly LDS based pro polygamy forum like this.

Anyone know the differences? Similarities?

i haven't but i have a question too and don't know how to start a discussion.... soooo......here goes!
i am curious - i've seen poly-Mormons, poly-conservative-Christians, and of course the Muslims have done this right along. But i was wondering if anyone has heard of a MOVEMENT (not a case here or there) of non-Messianic JEWISH people in plural marriages. After all, it seems to have started there, to start with? j/L "Granny" Matrika / Rolling Buffalo Woman - p s i do know that some of the American Indian tribes do this. To be honest, i don't know enough about my own tribe to know whether they do or not - currently or historically - but i've never heard of anyone doing it. (of course learning about this heritage is also new to me. )
another p s - i posted this on the Sister Wives TV show facebook page too!

going to check out the site you suggested!

Hello, yes I am familiar with 4thefamily.us. The site is ok, and yes it has a lot of Mormon (LDS) post but, you must click on the link for different religious beliefs. They have Mormon, Muslim, Jewish, Born Again Christian, etc. once you click on the born again christian link you will see their forums and post. (If that's what your faith base is) I personally only know frequent Biblical Families, for they are the only site that stays true to a biblical family... IMHO.... I have received a wealth of knowledge from BF. And I am grateful to our God for allowing me to find the biblical families website.... I hope this helped!

I have been a member there since before this site got started.
There are differences. 4thefamily has no planned chats, so people log in and wait for others if they feel like chatting, and it can be busy or slow. There is less moderation, as the original purpose of that site was to make available online pro poly articles and information, including links to poly news. Less moderation means it can get interesting there. If you have a temper, or your buttons are easily pushed you could run into some trouble there with other members. They will ban members too, and it might not be the ones you expect.
The focus of this site is ministering to real people through the forums, the chat, and real life retreats!
I appreciate the way Biblical Families stays grounded in the Bible, and the way they treat and care for the people who come here.
I appreciate the friends I have made at 4thefamily, and the interesting chats that happen there.
I appreciate other sites online, who are politically incorrect in other ways, and fearlessly address the real issues of our day.

Here is a big thank you to the people who run this site, and keep it user friendly.
Enjoy the retreat this week. :)

Yes ... Usually Yeminite Jews practice polygamy (primarily settled in Petakh Tivah outside of tel aviv). There's a movement among ultra Orthodox in Israel to normalize polygamy pushed by the wives who want some help. Many think the motive is to outbirth the secular Israelis. Jews who live outside of Israel in non-muslim lands do not practice polygamy as a matter of avoiding a "chillul Hashem" making us look bad to Gentiles and by inference making the G-d of Israel "look bad." For an Ashkenazi Jew outside of Israel to take a 2nd wife, traditionally he had to collect 100 signatures from rabbi's (to overcome the now expired Gershom ban). The Gershom ban was not for the sake of avoiding chillul Hashem but for the sake of saving lives since Europeans often would rise up against jewry ... For the same reason Jewish women in Europe were not permitted excessive jewelry except on shabbat so as to not make the Gentiles dangerously jealous. We are seeing progress in Israel as some high religious types have taken a 2nd wife or concubine in recent years.

The longer Israel as a country exists the more we move to "Middle eastern outlooks" ... The irony is now that there Gershom ban on polygamy expired it's already traditional to be monogomous ...
