another "of one wife" angle

Paul not the apostle

Don Milton's site is not the easiest to navigate, but has many good gems. This is one of them that takes the "of one wife passages" and turns the traditional definition of elders and deacons and bishops upside down. It is interesting(scary and eery) how much our modern western churches are living in a perverted(changed or backward or opposite) form of churchiosity. I have personally heard sermons talking about the elders and deacons being the highest attainment in church and how we should all strive to be like them(don't be polygamous). This reading was a blessing to me.

Paul , As you know I address this in depth in the book "Sex and the Believer." The terms are more accurately translated "by one wife," or by "at least one wife," meaning, we enter the ministry via at least one wife, because single men with an assembly full of women, may not be able to control themselves. Hope that helps.

I did really enjoy the book. I also liked being able to get it in pdf form online. It is interesting to note that when I require an employee to have their "own" car, I do not disqualify them if they have a car AND a truck. The intent is focused on ...can you get to work? Do you have that capacity? Just like in these passages...can you handle marriage? Do you have that experience/capacity?

and when you add in the idea (i have no documentation, but have heard) that in the jewish culture; to be considered a rabbi (teacher) one of the qualifiers was that you had to be married

this post (as always) subject to correction by someone who actually knows something :)

Steve, That's funny. I'm flattered. Anyway you are correct. A Rabbi in Israel, which we all are in the Commonwealth, in order to pastor or be around children must be married. CORRECT!
