A Statistical Note of Encouragement

Sometimes it is interesting doing research in the area of polygyny. On page 76 of the book "Family Structure and Interaction: A Comparative Analysis" by Sociologist Gary R. Lee, he makes these two statements regarding polygyny:

"Monogamy is the only mode of marriage in 168... societies (14.5 percent), polyandry is normal in 7 (0.6 percent), and the remainder (982 societies 84.8 percent) practice polygyny."

For those who did not know already, the MAJORITY of societies practice polygyny!

"In terms of cultural patterns, polygyny is clearly the most common type of marriage accross the world's societies, although on the statistical level the substantial majority of all marriages are monogamous."

I would suggest that this will probably always be so. I would even suggest that throughout the history of Israel it was most likely the case as well!
