A new day.

Greetings friends.

I just wanted to share that today was a great day for me. I finally made the decision to accept a new job and a substantial pay increase. It wasn't easy because I enjoy the folks I work with a lot so leaving them will be the most difficult part of the transition. Anyway, just wanted to share my good news.

I already do. My previous boss is there as Director of Sales and he made me an offer I couldn't refuse! Really, he is the defination of 'the ideal boss' and I'm so thankful to be working with him again. I've been fortunate to have had 3 wonderful bosses in my many working years. The rest were ok or totally insane and horrible, so I know a good thing when it comes along. Today our family is celebrating for sure!

Congratulations :D

Finishing up my first week at my new landing. I'm so glad I made the decission to move forward with my career. There has been a lot of learning and un-learning, but I'm having fun, learning some new stuff and getting to know some great new folks.

Just wanted to post a happy update.

Congratulations on the new job and making it through the first week. To infinity and beyond! ylop

Donnag, great. Your point about working for a good boss is so true. Having bosses that both know how to manage, lead, care for, and support the employees is one of the biggest issues in any position anywhere. Indeed when you find those it is a blessing of the Lord. Brutal bosses, which there are even books written in that vein and studies and polls on them and how common they are, can be disastrous not only to ones work life but even to one's own physical health and family life.

I've had a lot of years to think on what makes a great boss (since I've been working since I was 15) and I think it boils down to something very simple: a great boss has a balanced personal life and loves to promote balance in the team as well (recognize strengths and weaknesses and team dynamics and manage it all positively as opposed to ruling with a jackhammer). Sorta like a they live to promote their own life to the people they interact with daily and if you can't do that positively you're doomed as a leader. That's the major reason employees find other jobs.

Well that's my opinion on successful teams anyway and my boss does a wonderful job so we all make it a huge point to support him every day.

Hmmm.....

A quick update:

I've been at my new job almost 30 days and today the Corporate Sales Manager resigned without notice. So, I came in and said 'Good Morning' to my boss and he gave me the news and said 'I want you to take this job, it is made for you- you have 5 minutes to decide and let me know." So here I am taking on yet another job (we'll hire someone new to take on all my other stuff in the next few weeks) but, it will take about a month to get an experienced person up to speed. I'm just now starting to be functional myself, but It's my familiar territory. I have to contact all our clients, get new ones, plan my next quarter, etc...whew.

I was looking forward to meeting everyone this weekend, but things changed in one hour and now I have to work at working my new job.

I'll plan on next year, of if you ever find yourself in Knoxville, TN just let me know!

Donna

We will miss you, for sure, but congrats on your new adventure, girl! ;)

I was stressing (in a good way, sorta) about all my new responsabilities taking over another market segment, that I was still awake at 2:30 this morning, stressing because I had to get up at 4:45 and thinking through all the stuff I need to focus on. Eesh. Hubby said he's taking me out to lunch tomorrow to reward me (ha ha ha!). I don't know what he's rewarding me for: more money, more stress, more time at work, more time I'm not asking him to remodel something on the house (complete with DIY instructions and pictures!), or what, but I'll take it! :D
